Jean,
Some really interesting colour choices there.........
My area here in White River seems to attract a lot of artists and it must be admitted also a lot of crystal gazers and other weirdos......... they all claim the intersection of ley line (whatever the hell ley lines are!) make it a good place for these oddballs to be
Anyway, here's some work by one of the local artists I met recently He usually paints wildlfe, classic cars and motorcycles and aircraft......... all of which are passions of mine, so it could prove expensive for me :

Steve
No arguing this guy is talented. I like the painting on elephant's ears, that's uncommon and really well done. Moreover it's a pleasant way of taking advantage of elephant's ear, for I wonder what can be done with them? I wish he is successful.

Jean,
I like his work as well, and his prices couldn't be simpler....... he simply charges ZAR12000 per square metre!
I have to say, I also enjoyed the link you posted, partly for the reason his work is just so unusual...........

I must ask him if he can paint a similat thing on other leathers or canvas cut to a similar shape......
I've got a bloody great roll of assorted gameskin leathers in the cupboard that I don't know what to do with.

I think a Buffalo hide shaped would be a good substitute.

I'm no expert but I get an idea you can stamp any leather to look like Elephant skin, in which case probably the easiest thing to do would be to use cow leather, because that wouldn't need any special permitting etc for shipping.
I'll talk to another friend who has a tannery and see what he can tell me.

Beautiful pictures, I envy people who have such ease with his hands. I am a disaster for the bricolage.

I believe he (Kobus Moller) did a piece a year or two ago with 2 other artists that was actioned off at the SCI show in Reno --2007 or 2006. I believe Daniel Smith was one of the other artists...it had a leopard, lion and cheetah on it I believe with each one painting one of the three..

You're right !
I've sold a oil on canvas in a auction organized by the SCI for the Human Sevice Commitee , 10 years ago . I offered 100 % for them , The price was not negligeable .... It was large canvas showing THE MASAI . That was my " traditionnal périod " All right reserved ©
