Dale,

Congratulations on a great job. A rifle that aches to go out hunting! Please keep us informed of the progress of this gun in the field.

Regards,

MOG

Dale,

Your posts are among my favorites here and I am always delighted beyond my wildest expectations when I visit them. To call this magnificent would be an understatement.

Thanks for sharing pictures and very good hunting! This of course means that there will be mroe pictures, so you may consider this a selfish wish from my behalf.

Gentlemen,

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind remarks. I love the rifle. It is heavier than most 9.3x74r doubles but the recoil is nothing, the barrels don't heat up bad and it shoots great. Honestly though about the only part I got to do was sand and polish and I usually screwed that up. It means a lot to me because Dad made it and I sat with him hour after hour as he worked on it. Each time I look at the gun I remember how long each part took and all the things he had to do to bring each little part togeather for the final result. Today is Dad's 80th birthday and he swears it's the last one.

Thanks Bigdog.

Fred, I wish you could have made it this past weekend. We had a great time. I took the 9.3 and Tom brought his new one. It's a gem and a tackdriver. After seeing how it shoots a man will never get it from him. :^)

I had him shoot mine. Austin and I had scattered a bunch of small plastic pop bottles out around the 50 yd. target. I put the peep on and had him fire two then as fast as possible he put on the zeiss shot two and again as fast as possible changed to the leupold and fired two. He hit all six and I loved the hell out of it. No, I didn't shoot after that. :^)

Dale-

Great looking rifle.
I especially like the little rear aperture sight.
Nice touch.

Have you hunted with it yet?
Make a nice dinner for your old man on my behalf.

Cheers
Tinker

In a double rifle for hunting about anywhere, the 9.3x74 would have been my choice too. Very nice!

Gentlemen,

thanks, I have to admit I'm well pleased with the way it finaly turned out. Buckbrush, you nailed it, 3" past the hinge pin. A knife edge point is right at the back screw of the forend iron.

A few thoughts. We could have hollowed out the rib and thinned down the barrel profiles a lot more to cut the weight but after a lot of shooting and thought, I do believe they both contribute to the accuracy. The gun sure isn't finicky. I wanted it regulated with 286gn. bullets but the cost was a killer. After I had ran through several boxes, I tried some 270gns. with intentions of using the second sight blade for cheaper plinking bullets instead of for a longer distance. I figured we could use one scope for the cheaper bullets to play with but I wanted an iron sight to play with as well. I thought if nothing else we could make a new blade and refile it if necessary. To my astonishment and delight they shot the exact same poi. At this point I started using the 270 bullets and periodically doublechecking against the 286. It never changed.
Some of the cases have been reloaded 8 times and so far I've only lost one case to seperation.
