Botswana Elephant.

My lucky day, 13th Nov 08, only a 5 hour track, the three bulls had decided it was time to stand in the shade, 25 paces side brain shot from a kneeling position.

From left to right: Modibedi- head tracker, Omkabetse – tracker, Roger Ramajaga – PH, Malebouo – Botswana game scout, Jeff Smith – PH "Unforgettable Safaris", Motlhasedi – tracker and myself

C B Vaughan .470 NE, Norma ammo with the 500 Grain Woodleigh solid.

The PH's double is a Heym?

Although most Land Rover Defenders leak a bit when it's raining, I am pretty sure you would have stayed drier if you had gone inside the car, instead of hiding under the hood.
Seriously though, congratulations with you elephant. Did you hunt anything else while you were there?
And just out of curiosity, what were you fixing under the hood?

Probably refilling the oil in the engine, front axle, gearbox and swivels.
Jeah, and cooler fluid also.

Was this in the tribal areas that run from behind the backline fence of the Tuli Block, up to and beyond Selibe Phikwe by any chance?

I could direct you to a couple of forum where describing a Land Rover as a Jeep would be regarded with considerable disfavour
John, great report & pics, I would love to hear more about the whole trip if possible, camps, location, set up, hunt etc, also, what sort of rifle in what caliber was the Botswanan PH using? Thanks Steve
