Any suggestions as to guides, lodges, destinations, etc? I want to go next winter. There are lots of people on the internet - almost too many to even begin a meaningful search. It seems there must be about 5000 "Maine Guides", all offering deer and bear hunting.
Any recommendations from experience would be very much appreciated. I understand success rates are very low, usually 15% - 20%.
Most of them really don't guide, just have stands set up and take you out. Deer are much more scarce here in the north but a mature buck is generally pretty big if you happen upon one.
I personally head to a farmland hunt in western NY state and enjoyed good success there. Some very large bucks come out of there.
