Wow that sentence Ripp, "While there is lead in the air, there is hope." I was delighted.

Thanks 93, my PH emailed me yesterday, we are going after a crop raider at dusk or night, he thinks it will be the most exciting method. The problem is that trophy judgement might be a bit of a gamble I will try and post some pics on my return, thanks again, Mike

You will have a blast---I was amazed how big they really were when you stand beside one..amazing...

My PH told me a lot of the so called "trophy judging" as to the tusks is not a totally scientific calculation...basically they look at the body and head..and even then can not be certain to the sex..and tusk size...if they get a good look with them opening their mouths then maybe...but lady luck plays a big hand in this game...lets hope she is sitting at your table..

Best of luck too you...

RIPP:

Re: Hippos, the African ones...

How do they stack up cost-wise and especially population-wise {that is, huntable populations} compared to elephants?

Do you see them becoming more and more popular as a large game animal as elephant prices skyrocket?

It is one thing to read the stats on them; size, weight, etc and to see one in a zoo but definitely something different again to see your pix of you and the dead critter. Huge and really amazing animals in their own right.

I have not misunderstood what you said, but I have money to go to a safari antelope (Impala, zebra, waterbuck etc ...) I am satisfied, but not for that I have.

Oscar.
