Kodiak .72
      #112292 - 23/08/08 05:06 AM

I finally received my Kodiak .72 BP rifle from the auction house. When I opened the package, I was shocked by the size and heft of this beast. The stock is beautiful walnut and the locks are case hardened. I will search the forum for loads and tips on shooting this thing accurately. I am hoping that it is one that can group ok. There is no sending it back.

Get it smoking this weekend and let us know how it does!
Also, get some photos up for us to see...

I haven't had any experience with black powder doubles, but I have shat a .54 caliber hawken and a .58 caliber Zouave a great deal. I think you will find black powder rifles to be quite accurate and forgiving. What kind of ignition does it have? I assume it may be a #11 cap or a musket cap. I think you will have no problem getting reasonable accuracy. I have shot some black powder rifles with horrid bores and they shot just fine. I would imagine fairly close shots are what it was designed for. Post a pic if you can.

Congratulations!!!!

Im glad you get your rifle (I get my books too.LOL)

Please shot it ASAP and post the targets so we can follow your load development.

BTW: I shoot my rifle yesterday with roundball and I get a very good group (5") considering that I have to pound each ball home. I have to change the patch lube.LOL

Thanks
Martin

Tarawa,
Congratulations on getting your double barrel muzzleloader. I think you will like it just fine. Buy the hottest caps you can find for best ignition. You will also find that it doesn't need to be patched super tight, just enough to make the patch grip good and yet still be easy to reload.

I will get some pictures asap and also some range reports. The area here in Palm Beach County where I live is run by NYC liberals and they have pretty much shut down any shooting except for some indoor ranges. The Sheriff's Range is open one weekend a month and the next open shoot will be in September. I may drive north a bit and go to a range that is on a pivate hunting reserve. I heard that it is open 6 days a week. Who knows, maybe after I shoot it at the range, I will go out and shoot a hog.
