Nice work. Have you heard of Hershel Carmen House in KY? He lives a few miles up the the road from me. Heck of riflemaker!

Steve-

Kinda feeling like a kid in a candy shop here -
More like how it felt when I was a kid looking through the back of Model Airplane News magazine.

I can distinctly remember the week I realized the meaning of C.O.D. , when I got permission to call the telephone number and ask the order desk if I could really just ask for them to ship the Guillow's SE 5A kit and let me pay for it when it came to the house. That paper route money burned a hole in my pocket until the day it *magically* arrived, mine in exchange for a few dollars and some cents including shipping and handling.

All those Cessnas and Bellancas and the Giant Scale Piper J3 Cub!
So many different models to choose from, so many different projects to plan, so little paper route money...

Steve,

Yet another magnificent rifle! I do think that the modern stuff gives too much away in grace and beauty to the old designs!

Congratulations again!

Thanks guys.
I also feel as if most "modern guns" just don't have the level of TLC that the old muzzleloaders had. That's not universal, but generally it's that way.
Now, I for one, encourage any kind of shooting that burns powder or propels lead. From Match locks to machine guns.

I am not "married" to only one form, but the old guns have a feel and look to them that is unique, and I love it.
That's why I make them.

Steve

Steve,

Won't you give us some particulars on this rifle?

What caliber, what dimensions, what everything!

Is it for sale?

A beauty.

OK Cap.
It's made for a man in Germany. It's got a 44" long 62 caliber Colorain barrel and a Chambers "Early Ketland" lock.
The stock is 100% hand made, as are the side plate, toe plate, patch box and inlays. The butt plate is also cast by me.
It's stocked in Birdseye maple as per the request of the owner.

Johan is coming this fall to hunt antelope with me and he's going to use this rifle. If we get time, we will also go after elk. Hunting in America is a real treat for him, as he doesn't get the time to do it much.

The rifle has a folding 2nd blade on the rear sight. It's zeroed at 75 yards with the standing blade, and the folding blade is zeroed at 150 yards.

It uses a .600" ball and 140 gr of 3F powder. Velocity is about 1875 FPS with this load. The balls weigh 322 grains.

Obviously, it's not for sale, but I do have another one about 2/3 done that will be. I have to get several of my customers guns done first however.
It's got the same barrel, a Round Faced Chambers Lock, but it's stocked in curly sugar maple and has a 13 5/8" Length of Pull. It's even fancier than this rifle. It will be done in the summer of 09. If you are interested, let me know.

That thing's a Machine!!

Your rifles are an absolute treat for everyone here to see and hear about.
You're both bringing and making history with each and every one of them.
I'm glad to get the chance to see what comes off your bench and hear about it in such great detail.
You're an inspiration!

Steve's guns shoot and handle as good as they look. I'm very thankful to be the owner of one of his creations.

Hey, Degoins, this is very unfair. You have to post pictures of your guns and show them off. Let us all have something nice to see when we get home from work.

Very good hunting!

Mehul,
you can go on the bore rifles page and down at the bottom there's a post called 8 bore vs wild boar and you can see my baby there. Also it's the avatar for the bore rifles page. For the best pics of it you can go to Steve's photo account and he has much better ones there. He gave a link to it somewhere on here. Be warned though......if you go to Steve's photo page, you will lust something fierce.

Steve,
I just got done looking over your web page with your guns on it and I have to say, that those are some of the finest I've ever seen, and believe me, I've looked at thousands of guns on the rendevous trail. Very nice indeed! Thanks for sharing them with us. Bob H.

Nice work. Back in the day, I made a poor living for several years building longrifles. It was all I thought about, morning noon and night. Those were wonderful, hungry years.

I was thinking the same thing. The owner will be using it to go hunting deer and antelope with me in about a month.

At 62 caliber, it's more then necessary for deer and antelope, but so what? So is a 12 ga slug, but millions of hunters use them.

Squarebridge, your work is excellent.
That top pic looks like a "George Eister" rifle, in curly ash. Am I correct?
