Does anyone have any experience with Cabela sponsored outfitters and hunting packages? I am considering a South Dakota bison hunt next year and would like to hear of anyone's experience with a Cabelas hunting trip before I commit.

I'll start out by identifying myself as a booking agent for hunts. I think people either love or hate Cabelas and for that matter, any booking agency. Much of that is based on what expectations a hunter has when booking a hunt. I do believe Cabelas adds on to the hunt cost and passes that on to the hunter.

Agents can be of great help, but we cannot do everything. For instance, I do not organize airfares, hotels, non hunting tours or trophy shipping. I can only make recommendations (and do) and people can go with them or do further research on their own.

I went on an elk hunt set up by Cabela's and was very satisfied. I wanted a hunt during the rut, when the temperatures were warm, and didn't want to camp out in a spike camp. There wre six hunters and six guides. All of us got a bull, most of which were 6X6.

if you are hunting the ranch where they filmed dances with wolves i have hunted there an easy hunt thats ok but those are shoots really not hunts.the bison is not very elusive or wary.a very economical trial for a double shooter.you will get one and you will be treated well and see some great country.
