Which one to buy? Help!
      #109154 - 07/07/08 12:25 PM

I have to make a decision on these two guns this week..I will only buy one.

One is a blackpowder 1880 German boxlock w/ sideplates and 2 barrels..10.5x47rx16 and a second set of 16ga barrels...

The other is a 16x8.57jr...Boxlock..No sideplates...1 set of barrels but 50 years newer.

They are the same price....The newer one appeals to me as it would be more usable, but a two barrel set with sideplates sure is nice

Help!

It depends on the main reason for wanting the guns. If it is for the pleasure of owning & keeping it & shooting occasionally, I'd go for the older two barrel gun. If i was going to seriously hunt more often with it & expect to shoot say pigs at 150 yards etc., I'd go for the newer gun.

I would make sure that both guns are good working order & do not need any repairs etc. I would also be prepared to learn about black powder loading & cleaning before I make my decision.

Good luck. Sounds like a fun venture.

If you do not have any other double rifles (?), I would go for the usable newer one in 8x57JR and 16 gauge.

If you have others which are usable for your shooting and hunting purposes the older one might be a nice addition.

While the 8x57 is newer it wasstill made in the 1920's. Much more practial. Are these both Drillings or Cape Guns?

...16/8X57JR, hands down! There is beauty in usefulness, also.

I have many nice guns...all for sale at the right price with the exception of three...one of the three is a 12/8X57JR Sauer cape gun. They are unusual and a joy to carry, IMO.
