I sure wish I could have bought it! Oh well, I think I will get me a muzzleloader to start with.

Big Sarge, I bought my first 8-bore rifle (top lever W W Greener) in 1971 for $750.00. I owned that rifle 3 different times! plus having owned 6 other 8-bores over the years. I could never afford more than 1 at a time, and that was a stretch for me. They are fun to shoot! I have been hurt much worse by a .458 Model 70. Not as much recoil, but a lot sharper. I got away from the 8 bores because of the weight. 14 to 18 lbs is a lot to hold steady. I went to the .360 - .577 express double rifles. You can get a super underlever hammer blackpowder express fully engraved for half the price of an 8 bore. The workmanship on these 1870 - 1900 express rifles is unbelievable. You might want to consider one of those. Roland Hueber in Gilmanton, NH is probably the best authority on 8-bore rifles in the US. I found out over the years that there are very few people in this country that are interested in the 8's and 4's. It is just recently that the values have gone way up. If I can help you, please let me know, I will do what I can.

Good call Sarge-

It's highly unlikely you'll loose any money in an 8bore rifle of any configuration.
Get one, run it, see how you like the two ounce bullet!
You may well 'get over it' and end up turning whatever rifle you get for a profit...
Or (my guess, more likely) you might end up bitten so hard by the BoreRifle bug that you end up realizing 'all that other crap you own' is better off sold to fund the best 8bore double you can find.

You'll see.

Tell me about it...hahaha...These borerifles are facinating...from 20 gauge to 4 gauge.
One shall not question they are heavy...but unleashing 10 drams of black and a huge chunk of lead is worth the x-tra efforts. I wished I many years ago had gone into this "borerifle-thing"..so a word to Big Sarge is: " Jump into it with both feet...".

Big Sarge,
this will sound like a broken record to the rest of the guys, but I can highly recommend an 8 bore muzzleloader from Steve Zihn. The one I have actually feels light in the hands and is well over 10 lbs......I dont know how much over because I havent weighed it.....and is very pleasant to shoot. Dont get me wrong, it rocks and rolls, but doesnt bang you up like a modern magnum. Very addictive.
