And here is my second "toy" with his "big brother"
      #108433 - 29/06/08 05:27 AM

On Tuesday I finally got my second Mannlicher. It comes from Austria and is an interesting rifle in many respects. I'm quite sure that in the beginning it has been m.1903 in cal. 6,5x54 M-S with fullstock. But in year 1964 some skillfull gunsmith has made some changes to it. First, the pipe has been changed to apr. 7 inch longer and new caliber is 6,5x57 Mauser. Stock has been shortened 7 inch and front sling swivel moved forwards nearly as much. In the origin there has been Wienna -style scope mounts on that rifle but the gunsmith has replaced them with 3-point "normally" Mannlicher claw mounts. The scope is 4x KAHLES.

Edit. Here is more pictures of the "big brother"

Igor-

First, please accept my warm welcome to our community here at Nitroexpress.
This is the first of your messages I have seen, and I'm very happy for you that you've found such a nice sporting rifle!

Good hunting to you!

Bring your hunting gear out here to California. You can chase our nice coastal blacktail deer and feral hogs with either of those rifles.

Very nice rifles. I will never get tired of looking at the classic Mannlicher Schoenauers!

I'm as green from envy as could be by knowing that the fellow somewhere there in the bushes do have such a nice rifles, maybe some day I'll do a counterattact to get such ones as well. Hopefully the game will stand for a while to take a look of your beauties.

Igorrock,

They are both really beautiful rifles. I especially like the "Afrika Modell" styling on the upper rifle. DId STeyr offer this kind of stock as a routine? I thought it was a Mauser design.

Congratulations again and good hunting!

Welcome to the forum Igor.Beautiful rifles,as owner of Steyr Manlicher Luxus rifles myself I certainly appreciate these beauties.Tell me about the top one in the picture, the front end of the scope is held by a ring. What size is that ring.It certainly is bigger than the rear one.

Mehul Kamdar,

If you read more carefully my text you noticed that the upper rifle has been modified. In the beginning it has been as short as the lower fullstocked one.

iqbal;

This way to mount a scope is quite normal in older mid-European rifles. The upper parts of claw mounts are soldered to the tube. The main tube is 26 mm and the front end is 36 mm.

Igorrock,

And that is a very nice midification. Is it based on any Mannlicher model or is it a custom creation of yours and your gunsmith's? Whatever it is, that is a beautiful gun!

Good hunting!

"Is it based on any Mannlicher model or is it a custom creation of yours and your gunsmith's?"

The fore end of stock is apr. 2 inch longer than Mannlichers original "short stock". This customation bas been made 2 months before my birth.
