Kiwi Custom Damascus!
      #107909 - 22/06/08 10:46 PM

Received my custom damascus knife from New Zealand the other day, what a marvellous blade! Built by Max Norrell in Christchurch, as a favour for taking him and his son out on a couple of fishing and hunting trips when he visited the Top End of Australia a while back. His son, a geomatic engineer, worked with me for 2 years during his posting in Darwin.

Max and his partner are in the process of setting up a new power hammer, so should be able to make a few more in the future, but they're not rushing in to it just yet.

This example has been triple thermal pulsed before hardening to refine the grain structure, then hardened and single tempered to specifications of the two steels which are very suited to each other. The resulting scale of hardness is usually Rockwell 57-59 but this blade tested Rockwell 61, the hardest that can be obtained with these two steels.

As you can imagine, I'm very pleased!

Very sweet, what a great job, use it well. I love the look of Damascus knives. I've bought a couple in the last year.

Marrakai-

Great looking knife, great story too.
It sounds like your friends know their metal and love what they do.

It looks like it'll be a really good shape and size for working through game in the field.

nice knife marrakai, i love the shift that lies in the middle of the blade, it makes it a much better structure in a working blade. use it well so it can make its maker proud.

cheers

peter

Marrakai,
You are indeed a very lucky fellow, both in recieving this great knife and for having such a wonderful friend! I would say that Max is a truely great craftsman. Use it in good health. Bob H.

Thanks guys.

I'm gradually plucking up the courage to put an edge on it!

...then I'll struggle with the dilemma of taking it out and getting it covered with blood and mud!!
