British Single Shot Barrel Dimensions
      #107390 - 14/06/08 03:33 PM

Gentlemens:

I will in the not too distant future be barreling a couple of British actions, and would appreciate any information you might have on the barrel dimensions of origninal rifles.

The first is a fine Daniel Fraser sidelever reproduction that I am getting a prototype of. It will be made up in a sporting configuration and chambered in, tentatively, .375 H&H Flanged Magnum. I would like to try to duplicate the original full lenght rib. If any of you good folk happen to have an example or good pictures of such a barrel I would be grateful to have them.

The second rifle is a bit further down the road, but will be another sporting rifle built on a Gibbs Farquharson action. This one, subject to extensive waffling, will be chambered for one of the .450-400s.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Glenn

500 Nitro:

Thanks for the reply. I do indeed have the 5 Winfer books that I am aware of. If he ever comes out with another volume I will certainly get it. Unfortunately Mr. Winfer has yet to do a book on Daniel Fraser's rifles. I sure hope one is in the plans. They are wonderful works and much needed.

as I understand it from speaking to Tom Rowe the publisher, the next volume is done and will be out soon, it is on Webly rifles, then rook rifles, not one in the works on the Frasers yet.\

Steve:

Well, that is quite inconsiderate of Mr. Winfer. He should have known that I needed information on the Fraser. I get no respect.

It will be most interesting to find out what he has to say about Webly. Howsomever, I can't help but think that the '02 Webly is the second ugliest action the British ever made, and challenges even the Comblain.
