416 RUGER
      #107279 - 12/06/08 11:32 PM

FYI---During my last trip to Africa--I was told Steve Hornady was there hunting lion using a proto-type weapon chambered in the .416 Ruger..so I suspect will become a reality...

Personally, I think the .416 is one of the best calibers out there for African Game--and look forward to it...probably will not do anything more or less than what is already there --other than be in a more compact design..

Well, i am impressed with the .375 ruger. The Hawkeye is a very handy carry rifle. I am anxious to see what the .416 is like. I like the looks of the RCM caliber Rugers too. They were at the NRA exhibition in Louisville last month. I had a Remington 700 in .416 reminton magnum and it kicked like a mule on crack!

How many .416's are going to make the next decade? I doubt all of them.

I doubt they all will as well--if I was a betting man I would say the .416 Remington might be one of the ones to go--just because the new Ruger will get all the press for the next year or two---plus the Rigby will be will us forever and justifiably so...

Ironically, during my last trip to Africa recently, I asked 6 different PH's what calibers they were using..1 was using a 458 Lott, 2 were using a .458 Win and 3 were using a Winchester chanbered in the .416 Remington...that quite frankly, really suprised me...Just thought everyone would be using a 458 or some sort...personally, I have used the .416 Remington on 4 hunts to Africa--and have perfect performance with one shot kills from steinbuck to elephant..very impressive caliber.IMHO...
