New Hammer Double Rifles in Nitro Express Calibres
      #106945 - 07/06/08 09:36 AM

Please scroll down the page.

Available in 375 H&H, 416 Rigby, 470 NE, 500 NE and 500-416.

Adamy are an old and reputable name and I wonder if any members here have any experience with these guns.

Good hunting, everyone!

They are so evil that they try to sell me in Deuch Marks (Spelling???).
I asked for info in English but got a German spreadsheet. I cannot make out what each gun in the list means!!

Mehul-

Thanks for posting this to the list.
I've thought it'd be great to have a *made with today's materials* back action hammer double rifle in 16b for roundball at ~1800fps

Not really in the position to shop for one today, but it's nice to see someone's still producing rifles of that form.

Butchloc,

I have been called evil before and I am doing my best to stay true to this description.

Tinker,

I am guessing that it is just a question of time before someone comes out with underlever hammerguns in black powder calibres. Gun owners are traditionalists for the most part and where there is a demand, supply will follow. Five years or so ago, Zanardini were the only company offering a hammer double rifle in modern calibres. We now have Fusil Demas and then Adamy comes out with a dangerous game rifle in this type.

This is a true, modern, golden age of gunmaking coming alive. To those who can afford these masterpieces and who commission them, my hat's off.

I'll write to the Adamy people and invite them to tell us more here. Not sure how long it would take but we do have a very positive trend of gunmakers and designers coming here regularly now to talk about their products.

Please watch this space. Good hunting, everyone!

Germans never stopped building them.

Mehul-

I appreciate your efforts to showcase these modern organizations of old-world artisan gunbuilding.

Please do continue to spotlight builders such as you have here.

Andreas-

Will you please post a link to a modern German gunbuilder who is producing back or island lock, Jones underlever hammer rifles chambered in traditional black powder cartridges?
I would be especially interested to see such a builder who is producing bore rifles in 16 and 12 bore.

Sorry i was refering to the hammer doubles he mentioned, but i will have a look around. The german gunbuilders are a traditional bunch, the will build what you order (it will cost though).

Peter Hofer's rifles look awesome. I wonder how he gets such details? The wrinkles in the skin of the elephants & the notches in the ears of the rhino look like photos! He even has minute details of the rocks, branches & birds.

Thanks for the post.

Andreas-

Thanks for the links.
The Philipp Ollendorff Bar-in-Wood Hammer Rifle is fantastic.
The sidelever rifles are also just amazing, his selective ejector/extractor system is quite nice.

I haven't seen his work before and I think I'll take a while to absorb these views and recover from the experience.
What beautiful design work!

I have seen Hofer's work before, and of course his guns and rifles are also brilliant.

Tinker,

Our Austrian friends have a link to Ollendorff - he lived in Australia for many of his childhood years as far as I know. Yes, his guns are incredibly beautiful. He is also relatively young compared to the older names and we can expect his fine creations to be available for many decades.

Peter Hofer is a legend, of course. Words are not enough to describe his genius.

Andreas,

Thanks for posting links to these websites.

Good hunting, gentlemen!

Part of this trend in creating modern rifles in the old hammer design or new hammer designs is akin to the 'safties' that uncock doubles or bolt action rifles such as the Blaser, Krieghoff etc.

I believe there are legal requirements or ramifications in requiring firearms to be "safe" and to be able to be uncocked in the EU.

Therefore rifles and shotguns that can be loaded but uncocked etc.

BTW I think they have the name just perfect "Hahnwaffen"

The "Hahn" of course relating to the cocking feature of the rifles/guns.

Bolted safeties on a Jones underlever backaction or island action rifle or shotgun (or howdah pistol for the hell of it) with nitro proofs..!!!

That would seem to answer the safety issues.
Load/unload with locks bolted no problem.
