Chopperlump rifle barrel blanks?
      #106587 - 03/06/08 08:12 PM

Hello to all.

Does anyone know the details of a supplier of chopperlump rifle barrel blanks?

Mono-bloc or shoe-lump barrels are great, but the chopperlump system is the strongest and neatest method of joining a pair of barrels. It is also standard with "Best" grade rifles.

We would dearly like to offer chopperlump barrels as an option with our double rifles, but thus-far, we have not been sucessful in tracking down a supplier.

Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Alex

Alex, I know Dumoulin will supply sets of chopper lump barrels and fit them. I ordered an AYA No.1 20 bore last year (still waiting ) and I was going to have Dumoulin supply and regulate a pair of rifle barrels for it in .44 Rem Mag , which they do quite often for others, but the price quoted was, I think, unrealistic. However I should suppose they may be willing to sell chopperlump barrel blanks. I can get a contact name and number for you if you want. I'm not sure by the way but it may be worth a try

I have been of the understanding that chopper lump blanks can be had from Ferlach. Don't know the specific source, but I would think a little internet research or a few phone calls would turn up the info.

Good luck,
Curl

Alex,
Try this site. I find it difficult to navigate, plus they only deal with thr trade. But you are the trade so there shouldn't be any problem.

Does Heym still make their own barrels? I had a rebarreled 470 that had Heym Barrels once.

Thank you gentlemen,

I will follow these up and see what I can find.

Any more clues out there?

Alex

Mick - HEYM still makes their own barrels, but they build shoe-lump and mono-block barrels only.

Peter Hambrusch is the source for chopper lump barrels.

Are these things still important? Is there a shorter life expectancy with shoe-lump setups?

Probably not, but its strongly assosiated with best rifles. I think so anyway, could be wrong.

your right andreas. chopper lumps are the most wanted, with monoblocks coming in last.

You might contact David McKay Brown in Glasgow Scotland. He would probably tell you who supplies his chopper lumb barrels. Here is a picture of a pair of 470 barrels prior to joining.
