Hello Folks,

Have any of you tried one of these? Did it work for you? Thanks, Tom

Nope, but I ground away the forend hanger so that it dosent touch the barrel at all.

Stuffed 90+ other rifles in the McQueens match at Bisley last year including TRG's, AI's and the rest. 25th of 120+ magazine competitors with a single shot.

Regards

Mr. Tatume

It looks to be a fancy way to accomplish an old #1 accuracy trick. A threaded hole is put through the end of the hanger under the barrel, and a set screw is used to provide adjustable pressure to the barrel. Some folks swear by it. I gather whether it works or not depends on the particular rifle.

This device appears to fit on the end of the hanger and provide the same set screw pressure adjustment. Seems to be well thought out and may be worthwhile to try if your rifle is not shooting as well as you wish.

Glenn

Hello Folks,

Through this and other media I have found nobody who has tried the Hicks Accurizer. So, I ordered one from Brownells. I'll write a report on my results with a #1A in 7x57 mm.

Take care, Tom

Mark De Hass showed me the trick with the threaded hole under the hanger bracket barrel nut. He said his dad, Frank De Hass came up with that one years ago, right after the number 1 came out. I believe him because Frank was always getting new singleshots and other guns from the manufacturers right after or even before they became available to the public. They wanted him to look over their designs and find ways to improve them. For those of you who don't know about Frank De Hass, he was a mechanical genius who wrote a series of books on the single shot rifles and their actions and told people how they worked and how they could be improved upon.
His son Mark told me that he worked on rifles and was still receiving guns right up to the end of his life from gun companies wanting him to do writeups on them. He did work for 10 years with the help of his good wife, who helped him take the guns apart and then put them back together again. Frank was totally blind for the last 10 years of his life. Now that's dedication! Bob H.

It's interesting that you brought this thread back now. This week I installed the Hicks Accurizer, and I'm in the process of testing/adjusting it now. I'll have a report soon.

Take care, Tom

I will be interested to hear your thoughts on this. I had a number one in .220 Swift that was somewhat erradic,(POI climbing as it heated up), and Mark De Hass helped me fix it up. All we did was remove the presure lump in the front of the barrel channel and the drill and tap a 10x24 hole though the front end of the hanger bracket after removing the barrel nut. Then all you need then is an allen head set screw and matching wrench. I started with about a 1/4 turn of up pressure after the screw contacted the bottom of the barrel. I kept on tweeking it and shooting till I got it right on. If I remeber correctly, it took about a half a turn of pressure to get it right.
After we got it shooting it would hold amazing groups out to 350 yards. Moisture, heat, nor cold affected it after that.
I hope this device does as well for you. Have you ever tried one of the rubber barrel donuts that they have out now? I never have, but I would be interested to know if they really work or are just a gimmick. Bob H.

The Hicks Accurizer in my #1, a .300 H&H, works great.

I tightened the screw to start with, as per the instructions, and then tightened it a bit more to see if groups shrunk with the Federal factory load. They did - from about 1.75" to MOA @ 100yds. That setting hasn't change since then, meaning the screw hasn't shot loose from recoil or barrel vibration.

I have heard (can't remember where) that recent No.1 rifles, say those manufactured in the last 3 years, have a similar thing built in. Is this true ? best, Mike

Not to my knowledge. My most recent purchase of a new Ruger #1 was last summer.
