Here in France, at least in our region, the season starts the 15th may. In fact buck are active during May, cool down all June long and are in full swing rut from the 15th July to the 15th August, especially in August, depends on weather.
I was after a nice buck for three years and eager to connect with him at the opening of the season but no luck. The weather is too hot and wind whirling no end. I made only 2 attempts and will wait for the rut to outsmart this foxy buck. A piece of luck that my hunting partners let me this buck though I am refusing to harass him every week.
Good luck

So the danish season closed a few days ago and allthough i have been going out, on and off through the season nothing did pan out. either they were to young or the right shot did'nt present it self.
but the 15/7 was the last day, so i took the day off, and went hunting. the hunt was relative uneventful with me having a good idea about where and when the buck would show himself.

so i just parked my ass in a nice sunny spot, and sat there while roes and fawn were going around minding there own buisness.

at 20:30 he showed himself at a small patch of fir and i just sat down and put the crosshairs onto his shoulder, while resting my elbows on my knees.

at 20:37 the shot broke and he fell over with all contacts being shut down.

so danish roebuck season 2008 is over, it was great while it lasted and i still got it all, firmly resting in my memory, for me to enjoy over a campfire with others, or in my good chair in a late vinter night in front of the fireplace.

best regards

peter

P.S i got an idea the heads are at my mate's place to get the cooking and cutting done for the euro mounts, would it be a idea to show the trophys besides the just dead pic's, as to show the difference ?

Tracked this fella yesterday:

Hunter shot him frontal - grazed the shoulder and made a mistake - went to look for it with his unexperienced young dog - buck went for 200 m and lay down - he flushed him and let the dog loose - dog chased the buck and after 1/2 hour returned without a sign of finding - I came 4 hours later in full 32C - 90F heat - had no difficulties to the bed, but afterwards there wasn't a drop of blood to be seen - however buck went straight to the village and was recovered after additional 300m - dead. Bullet striked the shoulder joint and sent some fragments into chest cavity that were fatal. If guy would let the buck to rest for an hour we would pick him up on his first bed with even less sweat.

By the way, what rifle/caliber was the hunter using?

{Also, since I didn't post above...Congrats to you, too, Peter!! }
