Guys
I wouldn't expect many of you travel Nationwide, because they don't carry firearms..... but just in case, you might like to see this warning I received from PHASA this morning:-
Subject: NATIONWIDE AIRLINES - URGENT
We request all members to read this carefully, and advise their clients accordingly.
ALL Nationwide flights from 13h30, April 29, have been cancelled until further notice.
IATA spokesperson, Darren Sack, confirmed IATA had suspended Nationwide from the BSP. Agents will, thus not be able to ticket Nationwide.
AGE, the investment company that was to have bought Nationwide, withdrew its bid on Saturday, April 26. AGE ceo, Reggie Naidoo, told eTNW that the bid was withdrawn as the deal was no longer “viable”.
The airline is said to have grounded its flights due to cash flow problems.
Airlines, BA Comair, kulula.com and 1Time have confirmed they will not be honouring Nationwide tickets.
Tour operators are advising their clients that no refunds will be available and that new tickets will have to be purchased at full price.

It seems global fuel prices are running everyone out, or almost out of business. All the while oil companies are posting record profits, due to the speculatory markets.

It was more complicated than that in this case..... they were grounded for a while over maintenance issues and couldn't recover from the loss incurred........ although, generally speaking, I agree completely with what you say.
These fuel prices are getting scary and the BBC news today, reckoned it could soon go to US$200 a barrel!!!!!!!!

I agree.
Oil should be taken off the speculatory markets, it's all driven by greed and profound BS.

How do people in Countries who heavily tax oil products manage? It is bad enough in the US paying .75/liter but how do you guys in Europe and Africa manage?

Hi Mickey, your complaining about paying 0.75c a litre, on a good day and they are getting less as the year goes on, we are paying A$1.45 a litre and over the last long weekend it went up to A$1.49 and this is in the "City" areas, country areas can pay a further 20% due to transport costs so you have got it fairly easy and that is also why "Holden" is exporting V8's to you with a different badge, we can not afford to run the bloody things even if we could afford to buy them.

The UK was reporting prices of up to about UK£1.45 per litre, but that was unusual and partly due to a strike. I guess about UK£1.15 per litre is more usual. That works out at about US$2.30 a litre which is about US$10 per US gallon or US$11.50 per imperial gallon.
Here in South Africa we're currently paying about ZAR9 per litre which translates to about US$5.80 per US gallon.
Which of course means that everyting is going up in price. I have a buddy who runs a small supermarket over here and he tells me that on average prices have trebled over the last three years.
Even the SA prices are making me think twice before getting in my 5.7 litre V8 and if I don't need to carry much, I'm using my motorcylce a lot more............

Yes it sucks! I pay £1.16-1.19/litre for diesel and about £1.11-1.15/litre for petrol... I just came back from Egypt and the drivers there told me it was abou US$0.15/litre there (subsidised of course) but it takes the piss. Of course most of the cost of petrol in the UK is tax - 2007 fuel duty (as of 1 October 2007-think it may be higher now) in the UK is: 50.35 pence per litre for ultra-low sulphur unleaded petrol/diesel 53.65 pence per litre for conventional unleaded petrol 56.94 pence per litre for conventional diesel
At least I am getting about 50mpg in my diesel VW Passat but that means I am taxed over £1,800 per year just to drive to work!!
They say that the tax is set to discourage car use and promote public transport use. All I can say is with a tax take like we have we should have the best subsidised public transport system in the world....

£1800 a year to tax the motor! - 'F' kin 'ell!!!!!!! I can't remember the exact cost of taxing my car here, but I'm pretty sure it's less than ZAR200 or about UK£14.28...... My motorcycle is considerably less.
Now that actually has a funny side!

Sorry - thats the tax on the fuel I use in a year based on current price, my engine efficiency and annual mileage. Car tax is based on CO2 emissions and is around £180/year for an average sized car, less for a smaller/more efficient engine and up to £400/year for larger engines.
