The .404 Jeffrey M81 Parker Hale
      #10414 - 29/02/04 12:39 PM

I was wondering how common the old Parker Hale M81 in.404 Jeffrey was?

Has anyone seen these in their travels?

I had use of one for a while. It was I think an FN action (I read somewhere about a Santa Barbera action?). A plain stocked rifle. Most I saw were in .375 H&H.

Now seeing I have a .450 No2 NE in a WJ Jeffrey I was thinking a future .404 Jeffrey would be nice. In a Parker Hale or a CZ. Then maybe a .333 Jeffrey but I know nothing about this calibre and need to read up. Future project ideas only at this stage, but I have wanted to replace the .404 ever since I let it go.

PS My middle name is Jeffrey too.

Nitro, haven't you been keeping up with Nickudu's Files? There's a lot of 404 articles in it. The ones that you're interested in are either archived or will be after a bit. In fact, you could probably PM Nick for any articles that you can't access.

Putting your Jeffery next to a CZ would be like:

putting Rubbing Alcohol in your Shiraz.

like taking Rosie O'Donnell to an NRA Banquet

like putting Jennifer Lopez's ass in a Victoria Secrets Panty add.

like....I don't know...really sick.

Didn't that ad allways run between a frequent flyer miles spot and a RAID commercial?

I was thinking of getting a 404 Jeffery in a fully done Weatherby. However, being a 404 Jeffery I would probably not get the fish scale checkering done, the inlays would be sufficient

Mick, what's wrong with JLo's ass in a Victoria Secrets ad? I think it would be uplifting.

Well for starters it would have to be a fold out as a two page 'Spread' would not be wide enough.

I don't know Mike. The fish scales would be fine. There's not much you can't do to a Weatherby that won't make it more Beautiful.

That is certainly a view that many hold

I have often wondered why so many people hate the Weatherby and why it causes such long threads to run. Being a troll I have always loved the look of them

Mike

Just to show you I'm not prejudice here is my 340 WB. I sold all of my Dog's first litter to buy it in 1981. It is a Weatherby Custom with an aftermarket, and much better than a Weatherby, stock. Weight 8.5Lbs with 3x9 Zeiss

Mick

Looks like the Wby is for using and the other rifle is for "show"

I can understand that situation

Mick

I gather you are not a fan of CZ's?

Sometimes they can clean up quite nicely though.

An original Jeffrey would be the ticket but not very likely.

A 404 in a Weatherby?, only if one is a pedifile, chases rabbits by moonlight and leans towards the same sex A gastly thought at best!

I always wanted one of those parker hales in a 404, but todate I have never seen one...

I once owned a commercial FN in a 404 but sold it some 10 years ago...Wish I could find another..

Mike,

Not picking a fight here...but as to Weatherbys:

All the good looks of a '57 Buick tail fin

Far too much freebore...

Whippy barrels in the standard configuration (#2 contours are fine)

All the good looks of a '57 Buick tail fin...

Kill'em with shine...not accuracy

Push feed...

All the good looks of a '57 Buick tail fin...

Not I, not Weatherby, nor several respected gunsmiths could get my German 300 MKV to shoot groups...only patterns.

I do like the calibers, just not in Weatherbys.

I'd rather have a '57 Buick than this German 300..

EzineX

Your Jeffery is a very nice piece of Gunmaking History. It is a Grand Old Cartrdge by a Grand Old Maker. It has bloodlines and tradition. Gilbert and Sullivan

The CZ is a fine rifle, for what it is. A very good deal, for what it is. Vanilla Ice.

Fine Wine not Cheap Beer.

Mick, wasn't there some white rapper named Vanilla Ice or some such? Claimed he was from the ghetto and was really from a well to do middle class family?
