An ideal scope for .270-.30-06 caliber rifles under $ 250
      #103872 - 30/04/08 02:51 AM

Hello everyone,

Any suggestions on which would be an ideal scope for a .270 or a .30-06 caliber rifle. The budget is under $ 250. Thanks.

Leupold VX 1 3-9x40, Nikon prostaff, Leupold VX II 3-9x40 or any other suggestions. Thanks

I just purchased a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 for my .17HMR over the weekend--$199. --for the price is has nice features--thumb turn dials, ete...compared to the others think it is a good deal --however especially in scopes you get what you pay for...

I have a burris fullfield II 3-9 X 40 and i like it pretty darn well. i paid about 200 bucks and got a pair of handy rubber armored euro design lamdmark binoculars in 8 X 30 free. so far its been good. its on a .30-06. i am a leupold man, but i think its as clear as a rifleman or VXI.

I would go with the Burris 3X-9X-40mm Fullfield II with the Ballistic Plex reticle, it is a great scope for about $200.

Burris scopes are a gamble. If you get a good one they're okay, and most are. If you get a bad one, the service dept. is horrible. My last (and final) dealing with them required sending the scope to them five times before they were able to fix it.

If you decide to get a Burris scope, check with the vendor about his return policy. Make sure you can return a defective scope directly to the vendor for a replacement or refund. You do not want to have to deal with Burris.

It might just be my getting older bad eyes, but I've held Nikon's side by side with Leupold's and I can't tell the difference in optical clarity, but I can when I look at the price tag. I own several of both Nikon's and Leupold's and these days I'll take the Nikon most ever time with the exception of heavy recoil (I've never had a Nikon on a hard hitter to see how it holds up),then I'd take the Leupold. But for the 270, 30-06 I'd go with the Nikon.

A new developement. I have a Nikon 3-9X40 I purchased from Natchez Shooters Supply refurbished for about a hundred bucks that I was going to use on a muzzleloader. I wound up with it on a Ruger M77 .30-06 and it is performing beyond my expectations. It is bright and clear. I have used it to test several handloads with bullet weights from 180 to 220 grains. It graduates up and down without any problems. I think it is pretty darn good so for. I dont know anything about customer service of the company however. Inexpensive scopes I have sent for repair have actually been replaced. Thats only a couple of times and I expect policy varies.
