Austrian Drilling 16 ga. S x S uppers, & 11.2 X 55 m.m. (?)
      #103381 - 24/04/08 09:45 AM

Hi All !

I've run into either an Austrian or German Double Hammered Drilling that needs
some work but has potential. The Drilling is purported to have been made around
1920.

The top ( 2 ) S X S barrels are 16 gauge X 2.5 ''. The lower rifle barrel according
to the Cerro Metal chamber casting indicates out @ 11.2 X 55 m.m. long up to
the rifling.

From researching many of the Nitro Express Forums I've seen mention of 10.75 x 68 m.m.;
11.2 X 72 m.m. ; & 11.2 X 60 m.m. ...BUT ''NO ? '' Mention (@ least that I've seen)
of a 11.2 X 55 m.m.caliber.

Can anyone enlighten me to as whether or not this 11.2 X 55 caliber existed,or
can there be a problem with the casting ? Is ammo commercially available for an
11.2 X 55 m.m. caliber ?

Also what would be the high end & low end Dollar - Wise on a Drilling in this
caliber combination ? It is basically devoid of any engraving .

Thanks;
Mike

Hi Mike, Price would be very hard to quess with no pic's or make of the gun and its condition, Dicksons book "European sporting cartridges" pg 43 lists 11.15 x 55R MB Target.AKA 11.15x55R Austrian Target. This is about as close as I come to what you describe, as far as comercial rounds, I dought you would find any. My 10.25 x 60R Buchsenflinte (cape gun) & my 12.7 x 65R double rifle both required me to form my own cases from something else. Hope this helps you out.

I wouldn't pay any more than $600.00 for one in good general condition in that chambering and a hammer drilling.

Per the value, I would have to see the gun and like to know who the maker was. When you say "needs work" or "has potential" that kinda makes me think lower end on value. A picture tells a thousand words.

Love to see it.

Appears that photobucket is the forums users choice. I got turned on to it here and it works great. To boot, it's free. So once you upload there, you simple past the IMAGE URL of the pic at photobucket into the "image" link found below. Pretty easy once you play with it for a bit.

Thanks ! Does your book show either of those two rounds being
known as either the 11.15 Werndl, or the 11 m.m. Gras; &
what are they're case lengths ?

Also is the book you referenced still available & if so
from whom ? Also when was it published, & what is it
currently selling for dollar-wise ?

Thanks;
Mike
