The original (700 Nitro) might have been an ego exercise but future purchasers, as has been said, do we really need 500's, 600's, 700's ?

Probably not but it's nice owning them.

And I think if you can afford to buy a 700, the cost of shooting is the least of your worries.

I am not a fan of certain calibres, 8mm's, 416 (I'm a 404 fan ), Ex Mil calibres, but that's just my personal preference, nothing more, nothing less. Doesn't mean those that own them are in the wrong, just have a different area of interest.

Huvius,

I take 6 1000 mg caps a day as I said and my doctor is aware of this. Thanks for your suggestion - I'll be going for my once in 3 months blood tests in two weeks' time and will ask if I should increase the dosage.

Good hunting!

+1 with Bigdog and 500Nitro - you have both the Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly fans, but the world couldn't do without either, whichever of the two you might be a fan of.

Cool thread, nice rifle(s). It's cool that one of our own has one of these kittens! Enjoy, Bigdog!

no sweat Mike, I get a little hot under the collar sometimes and was having a bad day. I open my mouth sometimes just to change my feet!

Read the next issue of Dangerous Game Hunting Magazine. I've got an article in it about the .700 and shooting reduced loads. I've shot a .700 and yeah, it's a bit much. However, I love the gun. Being as how a Gunwriter is the next best thing to Professional Starvation, I have to use my .416 for all the squirrels, woodchucks and elephants I hunt. Check out Nyati.com for info about reduced loads for the big banger.

I shot the .416 with a 300 gr. light load and it is like punching out a .300. Still powerful enough to take any North American animal except Brown Bear.

Nyati.com seems to be a tour company site.
Wrong address or what? I didn't see any load data.

The site is now http://nyatiinc.com/ and Edward Hammond runs Nyati Inc out of Wisconsin, USA. I've got a set of 10 reduced load .700 NEs from him on the UPS truck en route to me today. Hopefully will have an opportunity to try these out in the next couple of weeks.

Just pinging this one back for current review.
Some good reference material here, and the voices of fellows no longer with us on NE

Great topic.

Would love to fire one. Wouldn’t like to carry one

Some not here, for shame, RIP to those that have passed.

Would like to see those that are MIA come back. Some great knowledge there.

In 2007 when Boss agreed to build my guns I requested a 600. They were only prepared to build a 700. Having fired a 700 holland ( courtesy Winks ) it was too much gun for me to fire. I love to carry my guns and although I only fired the 700 I doubt I could carry it. Boss has a new owner who is happy to complete my original order and the 600 is under way. I find the 600 easier to shoot than the 577.

A .500 NE is the upper limit for me in both recoil and weight. There are some days at the range that I just do not enjoy it after just a few shots. I never even noticed the recoil while hunting though. It could have just as easily been a .308 and I wouldn't have noticed the difference. Everybody is different and what is too much for one is absolutely ok for another.
