410 ?
      #101958 - 08/04/08 11:34 AM

I'm trading a kids 410 for an adult 410 just because. My kid size 410 has been sitting in the safe for 15 years with no action at all and the guy I'm trading with says he'll get a lot of use out of it with his boys. So next week, I'll have a adult size 410. What am I gonna do with it? How many of you guys hunt with a 410, and what do you hunt with it?

I use the 410 as a "fox in the henhouse" gun. With #6 shot it's a handy gun to have around for invading varmints. It's also an excellent training gun for wing shooting! They're expensive to shoot though.

The 410 is a very popular snake gun,and is also popular in orchards for bird control here in Australia.
My boys use one on rabbits with good success.

I've seen them loaded with 3 x 36 cal balls, and used on sick or injured cattle.
I think the Yanks use that particular round as a home defence round.

I saw them being used to shoot skeet a couple of weeks ago.

A great fun gun.....

Boys and girls should have 28's or 20's. A .410 is a man's gun. The best choke for a .410 is imp. cyl or weak modified.
: This will give a kiling pattern to 30 yards.
: A full choke will give a killing pattern to 25 yards and wounding pattern to 30 yards. Try it, you might like it. I do.

I hunt doves with a pair of 410's in Argentina and love it. I find that Full choke with improved cylinder works best for me. The killing yardages are much further than 30 yds at times, and it does the job VERY well.

Good article on the .410 online and also discussion of chokes suggesting Improved at .007" best all-round. I shot some pigeons with one once, but have never owned one. Good fun, but I like 28s better

Here's a link you might find useful. These people know and love their .410s!

I have a Winchester lever action 9410 that hits clay birds amazingly well. I mainly use it for tree squirrels, rabbits, snakes. Spends a lot of time sitting by the back door waiting to be grabbed for quick action.

I agree 100% that they are POOR kids guns.
