To my knowledge, the RUM case has been necked up to the .416 caliber with good results.. however, as it seems the market would not warrant bringing out another cartridge in that caliber..

Personlly I am waiting for the .416 Ruger to come out -at which time I will have a custom built for it..probably no better than those described..but different and something to mess with.

If you have one and can shoot it, great.
Personally it would be on my 'worst' list, but each to his own

Hi Jabilihunter,

I agree about the 425 Express, Last September in the Northern Territory ( Australia ) the P.H. had his 435 P.H. Express which was a variation on the .375 and did that do some damage on Buffalo and was mild as on the shoulder. Have a look at : http://www.gateway.net.au/~buffalo/main.htm it is well worth a look. Graham Williams will give any help you require, a good bloke and a fabulous calibre. As a note, he had a Sabi custom rifle in 500 Jeffery and sold it because of the reasons given about other calibres. Very hard on the shoulder with little added effect on the Buff.

Cheers for now.

I opt for the 404 Jeffery. It's a little more comfortable to shoot than the 416s but I don't believe that it is any less effective. More comfortable means less likely to flinch, less likely to flinch means more accuracy, more accuracy means fewer misses, fewer misses means more meat, more meat means everybody's happy.

I'd opt for the .416 Taylor (belt turned off) by using a .416 Rem reamer and holding it back 3/10"(whatever's needed) when chambering, as well as a standard .458 WM.

This sounds very like a 10,75x68 in essence, 416 Taylor 20 thou bigger in diameter in the body (not the belt) & 7/8 thou smaller in bore but theres not much in it. I know that its harder to load for than a 416 Taylor or any of the factory loads but with modern powders & projectiles it should be able to at least match 416 Taylor energy figures & just as good at fitting into a standard length action.
Steve.

I love the 404 Jeffery, I have only used it on Asiatic Buffalo and pigs but it has always done the job.
Loaded with the 400 grain Woodleigh bullets I am yet to experience a real failure of any sort. Penetration is excellent and felt recoil in my 8 pound rifle is very mild with a good pad.
It is an under rated classic which can be loaded above its 'standard' velcoity easily
