Martini Markings- Pashto, Dari?
      #101302 - 03/04/08 06:49 AM

My son has a Breandlin Arms Martini in MHCC pattern that came out of Afghanistan. It has the following markings on the buttstock.

Can anyone read or identify these marking?

I believe you answered your own question. They are likely an Afgan inscription done locally by an owner along the line. These may have come from most anywhere in the Mideast to Asia. Some of the marks do appear to be of writing, but, could be coincidental scratches or the whitling of someone sitting guard and very bored!
I love Martini rifles that have seen the service around the world. Such history to unravel.

Well I kinda figured that. I was just hoping for something a little more specific. Maybe something like "taken by Abdul from the cold dead hands of Pasha Gordon"

Could I have them upside down?

Sorry. Could be more like a curse for the guy that he shot with it.
Can't help you further.
Best.

We have a couple of Guys with roots in that part of the world who visit here regularly and was hoping that the markings might be in a language they might be familiar with.

DoubleD,

There are two fine gentlemen from Pakistan who would certainly be able to help. My feeling is that they might not have seen your post yet. Please PM Iqbal and Farhan with the link to this post and they should help you with a translation of the words on your rifle.

Best wishes and good hunting!
