Oberndorf Mauser information wanted for research
      #100770 - 30/03/08 12:59 AM

Wanted for personal research purposes, information on any Mauser Sporting rifle or carbine in the serial number range of 70,000 to 85,000 with a caliber marking of the two numerals 6,5 on the side of the barrel. The caliber of interest has the two numbers ONLY and not any other letters or numbers referring to case length. Attached is a picture for reference. Please contact me if you have any marked like this. Also, does anyone know the significance of the P. P. mark?

A customer of mine has a simular rifle by Ferlac chambered for 6.5X57. Your best bet would be to do a chamber cast and find the case dementions. The book Cartridge Conversions would help you out in tracking down just what the chambering is. If you get stuck send me the demsions and I may be able to help you out. P.S., you ant to get rid of that reciever sight????

Mauser chambered two. The 6.5x57 and a Short case for short actions, I don't have my resouces here with me (I'm on business in Italy), but I think it was 6.5x51 or maybe shorter. The case is made by resizing eithe the x57 case or the 6.5x54 MS. Look at Cartridges of the World. It will have the info on the short 6.5. The ballistics are about the same as the 6.5x54 MS.
Sorry for the vague references.

Learn something new every day with old Mausers...this one is 6.5 Portuguese with P.P. being Portuguese Patrone.

To add to confusion, Mauser also made the 6.5X54 Mauser which is not the same as the MS cartridge!
