Jabali,
Normally, the FN-Browning CCS 25 come with a single inertia trigger. However, in this rifle class, double triggers and (nearly) everything else is possible as an special option, provided you're willing to... pay and wait a lot...

5 shots are a group.

Hi!

Why not the blaser BB97, great shooter and ready to fit a scope. And They love options.
That is as long as you can stand the "pigsneck" stock.

i should mention that i also had a franz sodia o/u in 300 H&H. beautiful piece of work. detachable sidelocks 3 piece forend, claw mounts etc. the whole shebang. only thing was i couldn't get it to shoot. I tried 65 different combinations and none would shoot. Even out of the same barrel i couldn't get bulls ass groups out of it. so down the road it went

An O/U 450/400 would be very interesting--

It is probably the biggest Double that can really benefit from ascope for distance work and still be a one gun Safari rifle--Bigger than this I'm thinking SXS--

I would luv to shoot one vs a 450/400 SXS Double and make a choice re:preference

But what do I know- I have but one Double-

Agree with Curl that earlier Merkels showed outstanding value for the $$$--

His is breathtaking and very impressive for an O/U

As something different I found a 450/400 in O/U from Zoli--
Looks like fun and it would be great to run one Side by side against a Heym SXS

I would think the best buy would be a Valmet/Tikka in 9.3. I've owned 2 Valmet 9.3's and was very well pleased with both. One was a 4 barrel salesmans set the other had 12ga barrels with it. Took the shotgun combo to Zimbabwe but didn't use the rifle just the shotgun. They make a silicone rubber filler that goes between the barrels that greatly improves the looks. Both mine were single trigger models don't really know if they make a double trigger model. I actually prefer single triggers and really don't see a downside to them.

If you don't have deep pockets, this is an excelent choise! 99.9% of the time, they will "outshoot" the high priced spread anyway... I've found the 412's to be very reliable too.

They come with single triggers, but it's easy to install double triggers... They have mechanical triggers, and work very well.

Another huge plus is, with a little common sense, you can regulate the bbls "yourself", even to any handload you may want to shoot...

If you look a bit, you can still find 412's like this one, still NEW in the box..

I saw a Ferlach 470 NE 30 years ago which had taken 2 rhinos and 1 elephant ,while o/u dont have the aura of the english side by sides, they do point beautifully

Well guys, as a "working rifle" not a collector I bought an O/U double .470 NE as a cancelled order from Dumoulin a few weeks ago, it is currently being converted to double trigger and being case hardened. When it gets to me I will be able to check this "cartridge length" theory which I still don't understand ? best Mike

Boss and CO, considered one of the finest British gunmakers, did and still do offer U/O rifles in calibres upto 600 NE. And they charge more for them than they do for their SxS guns.

Historically, Lang of London, Lancaster, Dickson and several others experimented with side opening guns in the U/O configuration to avoid the deep opening required on traditional U/Os but they switched to the conventional format because side opening guns were awkward to reload especially for someone used to conventional guns. Pollard's History of Firearms has a detailed section on these experiments.

Good hunting, everyone!

Just this moment I received my Spring 2008 issue of The Double Gun Journal in the mail. I see that on page 45 there is an article about the Merkel Over/Unders. Haven't read it yet, but I bet it is interesting.
