FC Selous .256 Holland-Woodward Holland & Holland falling block rifle

The famous Frederick Courtney Selous .256 Holland-Woodward patent falling block rifle made by Holland & Holland has sold for GBP32,400 plus buyers premium at Bonhams.

The .256 cartridge is a .264 bore, and probably either a 6.5x54M-S or 6.5x53R.

This rifle completed in 1899, and one of three Holland-Woodward actions made for Selous by Holland & Holland. The other rifles being chambered in .303 and a .375.

I lust. But so much as I dig that .256, I'd REALLY love to lay my hands on a similar .303 or .375.

I wonder who or what title the dude in the bowler hat is/has or is he just a customer on the shop floor.

The trio would be just about the ideal battery to me! Of course you could add in a 500/450 and then you would really be talkin...

We discussed this rifle a couple years back. Will see if I can pull up the auction info.

Just imagine the stories that grand old rifle could tell were it able to talk.

Selous, Bell and Corbett are my favourite hunting authors.

Imagine owning a rifle once owned by one of these gentlemen, written about, and even in a photograph.

If I had the money, the above rifle would be cheap at that price.

The Japanese Samurai believed the souls of their owners reside in their swords after death. As said above, imagine the stories these rifles could tell if their souls spoke.

That rifle would be cheap at any price. Would definitely swap my mother for it.
