Ok, thanks for clearing that up. What surprises me is that Hornady factory loads has this kind of problems. Not impressive to be honest. I guess I will keep on producing my own ammunition.

Kammerherren, no you got it all wrong. My son was shooting the hornady ammo. Scott was our ph. He was the one that had the misfire. Scott didn't do anything wrong at all. I can't tell you what brand of ammo he was using, but I think it might have been ammo given to him by another client. Ammo is so expensive, in Zim, that the boys appreciate ammo gifts. Don't know if it was a handload, or factory load, but evidently it was a primer failure. Hope this clears it up. What Scott was using was definately not Hornady ammo.

Maddog. Sounds like a great hunt and great you could share it with your son, congratulations. Pleased to hear that the Hornadys worked so well as I might take them to Zim next year to hunt buff.(375ruger factories)
I've heard mostly good reports on the DGS's but a couple of disconcerting reports on the DGX's failing to penetrate on Buff and disintergrating badly...though from memory they were hand loads.
Did you recover any DGX's & can you elaborate on how they performed?

Thanks

Jon

Both of the cow cape buffs were basically 1 shot kills, with the DGXs. Mine was recovered and it looks like it should. My son was shooting factory loads, I was using handloads, with the same bullets. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

That's what it's really all about.

I would go so far as to say that the hunting experience is often no less challenging when it comes to "non-trophy" hunts as trophy hunts. In fact non-trophy hunting, depending on the game, can sometimes be even more challenging.

John, if I am not mistaken, Butch Walker now lives in Oz. Maybe he's your new neighbour, and you don't even know it.

Yes I believe so. Not sure where, probably Perth or Sydney or somewhere in between ...

Ha ha, I remember years ago people getting castigated on AR for even suggesting hunting DG with a single shot.

Don't know how all the old-times in black powder days most with single shots survived to write their books.

Yeah, there is a doozy being beaten to death over on African Hunting forum, at AR right now. I pretty much stayed out of it. There a few of those characters over there that are really full of themselves. Guess if ya write a coupla books and sell a few wallets, yer an expert....

My Ruger #1 in 458 lott drove a Hornady soft point from posterior to personality on a Cape Buffalo in 1=2006 in Zim. Buf went nowhere. Had a .458 hole right through heart. Why I used soft point? That's all I had. we were set up to depart and the solids were packed.

My #1 in 450 Ne seems to work about the same way.

Love them single shots.
