I believe it's "deemed safe" according to the whim of officialdom. Many years ago I heard of a Purdey stock being damaged when subjected to a "drop test". (by a drop kick no doubt)

I know for a fact that a rubber mallet was being used against the action to see if it would fire. The reason I know is that an importer known to me told me he saw it being done when he was collecting firearms.

It was only then he realised that a number of shotguns he had returned to the makers for dings in the rib were actually caused by Customs, my understanding is they settled up on damages, not sure if the mallet is still in use.

I thought it must be quite a refined and intelligent test.. As we all know the first thing we must do when we load a rifle is to smack the side of the receiver with a mallet for good measure and/or bang the butt on the ground a few times, before sighting and firing. It never ceases to amaze me that as soon as you put a clown in a special costume with stripes, badges and the power of the State that they assume the position of ultimate authority and start exerting it, any which way they se fit. God help us all....
Where does it end?

I was in line at an Airline ticket counter going to Africa a few years ago . The guy in front of me was a bowhunter, when he put his bow case on the counter he told the agent it was a bow not a gun. She asked him," is it loaded..." !!!!!! You are right "God help us all ..."

PS, Very nice guns !!!!

Was reading somewhere of the engineer that came up with an adjustable trigger system on the Savage 110 rifles circa 1970s from memory. What killed it was the legal requirement to be set to 10lb ... for Australian custom officials.
Cheers...

Well I hope there is some consistency in the Australian legal system and that all the armed offender, swat and sniping units have rifles fitted with triggers that are around the 10 lbs. As the old legal maxim states- "all are equal before the law". Hmmmm.
Probably about time to dust off the old guillotine and remind some of those what happens when they get the pendulum swinging too far past the middle. The old PTB's (powers that be) are aware of what is commonly referred to as the "revolution line", whereby you dont piss off the masses to the extent they get Madame guillotine out, and revolt. It seems to me they might be treading a fairly fine line in some parts of the world these days.

^ as I understand it the regs require "safe operation". Therefore subject to bureaucratic whim.

FWIW I once had a Hammerli Olympia target model. I think it broke at abt 8oz with no creep. Perhaps it's the lack of creep that spins them out, no?

Sirrocco,
Thank you so much for the phenomenal photos, I had just convinced myself I did not need one of these beauties and now you have changed my mind once again! Your thoughts on a 450/400 3"? I guess the only thing else to ask is how many original "Farqs" in this caliber are still out there- say none and I will put in a call to NECG. My sincere and respectful regards- beautiful work.

Hi CWJ, Glad you enjoyed the pics. The rifles are beautiful to say the least. A lot of heart and soul goes into each and everyone. They arent inexpensive but they are worth every penny if single shot masterpieces are what light your fire.

Cheers

Glenn

Sirrocco,
Indeed they do light my fire, quite explosively I might add! I have shelved the idea of taking my .404 Jeffrey Mauser on a buffalo hunt and now will devise a plan to take one of yours in its stead. My respectful regards to you and your continued success.

You don't see too many 300 H&Hs out in the field here in the states. Great cartridge. Last one I saw was on my outfitter's rifle in B.C. over 15 years ago.
