G'day Chris,

I used 83 grains of AR2213SC for the RNSNs.

If you do find-out where those sights can be acquired, please let me know!

Cheers,

Ben

Damn, Ben! I didn't know the Texas heart shot had made its way to Oz.

Great success. Congratulations.

I have not seen the sights Boddington uses on his No1. Is it a peep sight?

Nope, it's a single standing express sight.

This morning a mate from New Zealand came along for a stroll to see if he could shoot his first Australian game. Eventually we found a few pigs, and after a good stalk he made two one-shot kills on the young boars. This little rifle is really sweet to shoot and is accounting well for itself despite being the new kid on the block.

Me and Greg Pearson with the two pigs he killed:

For my first experience with a Woodleigh 400 grain Hydro, this little chap fell to one shot, broadside pass-through (of course), low chest with one busted leg; impressive spray:

Sadly, I was fumbling a little with reloading when the really big chap and others blew-out past me to disappear into the Never-Never, and embarrassingly I did miss one shot at a bolting pig. But it sure was fun!

That's awesome Ben. Little bloke really bled out!

What loads are you using for the hydro's and about how fast?

Cheers, Chris

G'day Chris, I'm using exactly the same as I do for the 400 grain RNSNs: 83 grains of 2213SC. I really don't know how fast they go. Someday I'll get a chrony.

I don't think so. I haven't tested any side-by-side on paper. All I've shot so far are termite mounds, and no matter what the projectile is, they all seem to go where I want them. Perhaps I'll shoot some paper when I head-up to Darwin to see a mate there, and beat my fear of the range!

Actually, I was a bit surprised by how low I hit the pig, as he wasn't that far away; I don't know if that was my bad or what, so I have a good excuse to do some more shooting and see.

In my 404j with 82 grains of 2209 and CCI mag primer the 400 grain Woodleigh RN produce 2270 fps.
The same load behind the 400 grain Hydro produced 2350 fps and prints 2" lower at 100 yards.

My 9.3 with 286 grain Hydro's print about 4"lower than the 286 grain PP's.

In my fathers 338 win mag the 225 grain Hydro hits 1.5" lower than any of the normal 250 grain loads.

Here is the last two shots I fired before going to Africa.
The top one is a 400 grain Woodleigh RN
The centre one is the Hydro.

This is the 338 win mag before Africa.
The top bullet is the 300 grain RN
The other one is the 225 grain Hydro.

Good consistancy, FATBOY404. The Hydro's cut nice holes, don't they.

The station manager's wife heard the dogs going crook one night, and went outside to find some buffalo in her garden. So, we've done a few trips out to poke along the nearby creek, and two of them have turned something up.

Earlier in the week, I got this little fellow. Two Woodleigh 400 grain Hydros did the trick, both entering the front of the chest next to each other. One was quartering-on, which exited out the ribs; I couldn't find an exit for the perfectly front-on one. He was shot at about seventy metres, and made perhaps forty. There was no need for insurance shooting.

Gabby waited very patiently for permission to tuck-in:

Then finally, today, my Kiwi mate was able to shoot his very first, also with the Woodleigh 400 grain Hydros. The shot distance was about sixty or seventy metres, and was taken front-on, exiting out in front of the hip, low-down. The little fellow made about seventy metres before crashing, and although probably unneccessary, two insurance shots were taken into the spine, both of which exited. Good meat all-round!

Taken yesterday afternoon with Woodleigh 400 grain solids, plus a soft through the noggin as he thought about it when nearly wrecked (I'd run-out of solids):

A young boar shot this morning with a Woodleigh 400 grain soft, which entered his right shoulder (quartering-on) and exited his rear belly; the little one was released back in the nest with by the water:

To celebrate the re-opening of Nitro Express, here are some photos I'd like to share from yesterday's clay pigeon shoot with the Ruger No.1 in .450/.400 3" NE:

The contrast between you pictures is amazing. The dry season is very different to your newest pictures. Good logging tactics too!

Testing today (thanks to John M. for the loan of a chrony) found my 400 grain RNSNs travelling at around 2050fps. Short a theoretical hundred, but still seem to work. Or, will they stop working now that I know?
