walksfar,

You are right Ruger should make a few more bigger "classic" calibres, I would like to see the following

.470NE
.303Brit
.375Flanged
.22 Savage Hi power

just for starters!

I'll pitch in a "yea" for the .303 British. I currently do most of my hunting with a pair of 7x57 rifles, a Ruger #1 and a Ruger 77. Just for the history involved, I'd sure like a #1 in .303, which will do anything you need done within 220 yards or so.

I shot my Ruger #1 in 450-400 on the weekend. I also feel that this rifle is a little light for this calibre, although it is quite manageable, I would like to see the rifle weigh about a pound heavier. I obtained cases from Bertram's of Seymour, some woodleigh 400 grain RN and some ADI 2213sc. I have been unable to buy a set of dies, but have borrowed a set. With the 400 grainers coming out at 2140 fps the rifle is quite lively, especially from the bench. With open sights I have been able to put three shots into 2 1/2 inches at 100 yrds. I have also tried some hornady 300 grain 405 winchester projectiles. These are 411 in diameter where as the woodliegh 400 grainers are 410. Did not seem to worry the Ruger and they are a little gentler to shoot than heavier projectile. I thicker limbsaver recoil pad and a mercury recoil reducer should make this rifle a bit more shooter friendly. All I have to do is pick up a set of dies. Any suggestions where I could get a set would be appreciated.

Well, lets not stop short of the .500 Jeffrey and .505 Gibbs!

220 Yards???? Commonwealth fullbore shooters don't even shoot a match that close! 300yards to 1000.

I had a chance to shoot one about a month ago. As stated before, it has the usual Ruger fit and finish. The Ruger Icon of reliability and strength. It was quite accurate from offhand and recoil was very mild for a caliber such as this. For the hunting situations where a single shot is appropriate this is a fine gun. Short and fast handling too.

1000 yards????

Montana shooters sight in their rifles and spot check for accuracy at 1000 yards just to begin the competition which starts at a mile and goes up from there....

Got in late on this thread, but I'd second the motion for a #1 in the venerable .303 Brit. I reload for this cartridge anyway (a Lee-Enfield #4) so I have a vested interest in this chambering.

Another #1 I'd like to see them do a run of (or re-run) is the .404 Jeffrey. But probably with the .450/400 out, they wouldn't.

The new "Boddington series" is bringing back my favorite "classic" cartridge: the 300 H&H magnum.

I have one from the original series, a limited 1989 run, and it not only sports great wood on the stocks, but it shoots very tightly. It's fallen easily into the "never-part-with" category.

I just snagged a 300 H&H a few months back in a pre-64 model 70...nice feeling rifle--have not used it yet...saving it for a special day...

New Ruger #1's seem to be getting harder to get here in Australia. My local dealer told me to expect an eighteen month delay if I want a calibre that isn't held by the distributor.

Also, remember that the "Boddington series" is a limited run of five #1s chambered in unusual calibers (at least for Ruger). I forgot how many of each are being produced, but if one appeals to you, or all of them, you might want to have your distributor order now, as a number of people on-line have reported receiving theirs.
