The breech from the borerifles are just impressive.

Good luck with that 8bore. 960grain roundball fueled by 10 drams will get near 1700 ft/sec if it like a Swiss 1,5 powder.

To begin with I felt confident to cock both hammers of my 10 bore...but the thought has reconsidered me to cock one hammer at the time. Launching 20 drams 2000grain conicals in a 14ibs rifle will send the groundcontrol into orbit with no soft controlled landing.

Always wanted an 8bore to shoot the 1200-1300grain conicals. The bore rifles are amazing and impressive.

What lead to the decision to have the cases made to use 209 primers?
I’m sure they will be fine, just curious.

Rigbymauser:
I intend to get the loads across a chronograph at some point, I am actually lead to believe the velocities will be closer to 1450’/sec (441 meters/sec)......shall be interesting.

Hi Ben,
Actually no decision....it is what RMC does. “Shotgun shells” after all?
I suppose I could have specified standard large rifle primers?

Even back in the late 1980’s, with my first 8Bore Greener rifle, I had Ray Meyer make me cases and he also used 209 size primers. They were easy then and easy now. No issues at all.

Of course the old originals are all over the map. The Brit cases used Berdan primers, and I have an original Winchester head stamp 3” 8 Gauge that takes standard large rifle primers.

Naturally any work fine with the “Holy Black”
Will try Cal Pappas’ loads of Blue Dot at some point as well.
- Mike

ADDED:
I have Mr. H. Buck Stix making me one of his star type crimp dies for these cases. That will allow me to load both sides without worry of the (left) side bullet backing out on firing the first shot.
Already have one of his in 12 Bore and it is very nicely done.

Well Tinker it's 30Deg C over here in Oz, the humidity is starting to come up to the 'sticky' stage - the exact opposite of you guys!
Lovely to see someone getting around - especially with a lovely old Krag!

I applied for the tags this year, got nothing.
I was going after the steel targets on the hill.
Did well.

Oh Bugger, sorry to hear you missed out!
Well at least you had a go mate & got around a bit.
Sounds like your Krag certainly has what it got to get the job done!
The .30-40 is at least on par with the old .303 British, so she'd be easily up to the task of a deer or 3!
Fingers crossed for you next year champion!

When facing a labour dispute, mechanisation is the answer. These new fangled tripod things are the perfect "scabs" to overcome the union communists!

Failing a tripod, a chair, some phone books, a pillow etc, to perform the union job of cameraman.

G.E.Lewis 8 Bore …. the "Clobber Pipe" [Re: 93x64mm]
      #356139 - 18/08/21 02:11 PM

Been awhile; I now have video of a shot with the Lewis……much smoke and commotion. (Actually a LOT of smoke and commotion)
10 Drams 2F and a ~900 grain round ball.
I don't do YouTube and the embedded videos, so I am going to forward the 10 second clip to Nitro John to see if he can add it to this forum thread.

Thanks for sharing Mike.

Wonderful to see someone is keeping these borerifles alive.

Today I will take out mine to oil it a little. I can't shoot such guns these days as I am in leukemia treatment and have lost some 40% of my strength.

I will B back again.

Damb that must be an impressive muzzle. What bore diameter is an 8-bore in inches?
