Now THAT's an interesting revolver. Cylinder flash might be hard on the left arm, and lack of forewood makes one thing it's meant for a 'short' hold - one hand on the other.

Peter-

Thanks for pointing that out.
Although I am keen on European bore rifles, this one -- not so much.

I've never been able to get excited about these revolving rifle contraptions. I've seen others with slightly different styling and detail, and as hard as I try I just can't get excited.
Rare and cool indeed, and it makes my SW500 PC Hunter appear properly proportioned (!!), perhaps if it were on the table in front of me...

Cheers

Here's a revolving (action) rifle I could warm up to.

description from Holts:

CHARLES LANCASTER
A VERY RARE .360 (2 1/4IN) BLACK POWDER EXPRESS THORN PATENT (SECOND MODEL) OVAL-BORE DOUBLE-ACTION ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERLESS FOUR-BARRELLED RIFLE, serial no. 5517,
26in. black powder only fine damascus barrels with short sight rib, open sights and ramp-mounted bead foresight, tubes engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. PATENT FOUR BARREL BREECH LOADING HAMMERLESS SMOOTH BORE RIFLE', Thorn second (improved) patent double-action rotating striker patent four-barrelled treble-grip action, patent no. 213 of 1882, the rear trigger drawing the action to full cock, the front trigger firing the mechanism, removable striker discs (dot marked 1-4), Jones patent rotary underlever, carved fences, beaded border engraving, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening, 15in. well-figured straight-hand stock with cheekpiece and steel buttplate (retaining some original blued finish), weight 9lb. 10oz.

Estimate £12,000-16,000

enjoy that!

cheers

There are also some interesting bolt guns in this auction.
It sickens me that Mausers with the thumb cutout cannot be imported to the US...insane!
416 Rigby lot#1114 (SB mag mauser too!)
404 Jeff lot#1143
350 Rigby lot#1147 (another SB mag mauser)

If the estimates are accurate, someone is going to walk away with a bargain!

Ben,
that is not exactly correct. Mausers with stripper clip slots and thumb cut can not be imported, unless you can prove they were originally a commercial action. The square bridge guns should be a no brainer, as is anything carrying original commercial proof marks. It's a little understood law. I got this straight from the head of the imports branch. I can give you the number if you like.

Yes, I learned that myself the other day from Holt's as well.
Square bridge mausers of all original types are exempt since none were military issue.
I am bidding on the Rigbys, but I suspect the estimates are way low - you never know though...

My choice was a double 8-bore. Two shots, available, compared to a single 4-bore where the "gun bearer" carried the additional gun.

Some writers from those days considered the 8-bore adequate. With a 4-bore possibly contributing to physical harm to the shooter over time.

In the meantime before the mystical hidden 8-bore turns up, I will have to settle for my patheticly small 10-bore.

Whilst not the most attractive thing, I'd still like to own this revolving 12 bore. Anyone know how much it went for? EDIT: And did it have sights???

I'd love one of the tula's also, but doubt I'd be able to get it into aus.
