Me and one of my son's in law. I shot my elk and readio'd him to come up to help me and on the way he couldn't resist shooting the buck!

Had to use my backup as...I busted the stock on my primary rifle. This one's a Winchester Model 70 circa 1954. .30-06

Packing out one of my deer.

One of the 5 coyotes I shot during August and September while elk hunting.

Yes - agreed!

I do note the gumbo on your boots, Rod - I sure don't miss that stuff - hate having to walk in it, getting taller and taller, then it breaks off and twists your ankle. Some is worse than other - depends on the area around here.

North of here, Ft.St.John and Dawson Creek, the gumbo is really bad. Go into the bush on dry roads, then it rains, you are stuck there until it either drys up or it freezes- can't drive out without chains.

Congratulations on the numerous elks, 9,3x57; there should not be much room left in the freezers now!

Turns out a .375 H&H is enough gun for Whitetail at less than 10 yards. Good times in South Dakota.

Ripp, thanks for answering but would not know 167 from 194 if you hit me with a tape measure. How wide is what I really want to know. Both very nice deer.

Not sure honestly..didn't ask..as width is not that critical for a good B&C score.. big deep forks, front and back make a good score..if its a good 5x5, heavy with eye guards, then look at the depth of the forks..I shot a mule deer years back that was 31" but didn't score well as his points were all broken off from fighting...Having said that, mule deer's ears are "typically" 20-22" wide..so looking at him, his is probably 22-24 wide ..the smaller one that is..
