Weekend Pheasant hunt..
      #239383 - 17/12/13 01:30 AM

Drove about 5 hours north on Friday with my very good friend of 20+ years...as we were drving there the temp dropped from 32F to 2F...

The following morning it was a balmy -14F...one lucky thing was the wind was not blowing..--warm front come through and the next morning it was 20F..we saw lots and lots of pheasants and sharptail..had a great hunt. with the assistance of my little gal Kate..german wirehair..we never lost a single bird despite hunting in over a foot of snow at times and 6ft tall cattails...she is an awesome little dog...

Sunsets driving home on Sunday night...mother nature was putting on an incredible show..

So jealous. Great looking dog.

I used to live in Alberta and then Quebec. I had to give up my dogs and mostly wild birds when I moved to NYC.

Now it's other people's dogs, usually the guides, and released birds. Not as good for the soul but my shooting has improved.

Weekend before last.

Well at least you are getting out which is good..especially this time of year..

I feel very blessed and fortunate to live where I do...yesterday morning I was walking on the side bank of a river bottom..fresh soft snow..little noise while walking..watching my dog work the brush below for pheasants..as I came around a corner and a big, wide 6 pt--(12pt eastern count) whitetail got up...as he bound off directly below me and across the river...pheasants were busting out..sharptail sitting in the trees...a very humbling and awesome experience on a Sunday morning...or any morning for that matter..

Take care and Merry Christmas ..

Looks like a great outing.

Great photos of the sky and beautiful coloration on the birds too.

Great picture of your dog with quarry; she worked hard for you and I bet she loved every minute of it.

She was so exhausted when I got home she has done nothing but sleep..the skin/fur area around her face, feet, ears and belly are all raw from going through the brush..Agree--she did love every mintue of it..

Here is another sunrise of the Crazy Mtns. which was on the way to that area..

Wow! Such a sight is a heck of a nice way to start the day.
