This appears to be a good example of what was being slapped together at the end of WW II: very late serial number with post 1932 proof marks, non matching military style bolt, pre WW I model set trigger. That said, something could definitely be done with it, provided the bore is useable.

The asking price is ridiculous.

What is the deal with the striker extending past the cocking piece? I have never seen that before. Also, the safety looks like a Buehler safety.

The longer firing pin is used with a longer cocking piece and usually paired with a cocking piece sight. My guess is both of those were removed when the Buehlar safety was added.

Thanks. You are probably correct.

I couldn't believe that an 80+ year old rifle could be in such good condition, so I consulted Jon Speed for his opinion. Much to my surprise, Jon said that upon seeing the rifle on GI, he immediately notified a collector friend, who immediately purchased it, settling the question once and for all at least in my mind. I actually had a phone call from Jon this morning which lasted quite some time and was very wide ranging in subject matter. I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did.

Now here's one I've never seen before!
TypeB with a long full length octagon barrel in 10.75X68.
A bit odd but what a rifle!

I don't see an octagonal barrel, just a standard round one with some light reflections.

Look at photo #2: it clearly shows the transition from round to octagon.

The octagonal portion of the barrel doesn't begin until after the round portion which starts at the receiver ring and goes under the rear sight sleeve, so you might say that the barrel is round, octagonal and round again. The barrel itself looks exceptionally long to me. The description says 70 cm, which translates into 27.55", and octagonal.

Looks to be round just out past the sight and then octagonal the rest of the way.

Can somebody who knows comment on the trigger. Is this a factory arrangement.

It looks like a double set trigger with the rear trigger removed. I'm not sure what kind of a trigger pull that arrangement would produce, but I wouldn't want to use it. There would be no direct connection between trigger and sear.

Yes, it is a DST setup with the set trigger removed.

The trigger pull of just the front trigger is usually hard with long travel before "breaking".
It was on my 9.3x62.

It's a first type Oberndorf German double set trigger that has lost its rear cocking trigger.
The second type has a different front trigger shape.
They are fully machined in the upper side of the trigger guard.
This system was widely used on continental rifles.
With the rear trigger you set the mechanism and pulling the front one fires the rifle.
When set the pull is extremely light.
A long and heavy pull on the front trigger can also fire the gun.
