Right now dies are pretty scarce for the 9.3x57 but the rifle is a couple of weeks out so there ain't no point in getting to excited.

I have dealt with Buffalo Arms before. They have been good in the past.

Thank you for the links. I checked Buffalo Arms the other day and they have changed there site. The dies didn't show up when I looked at it. I buy from them all the time. I will give them a call tomorrow.

You can't beat them for the price. Classic Mauser action and style for around $300.
Would like to see photos when you get the chance.

Nice one! I saw it at Simpson's while perusing for a 146 myself. I've got two M46 rifles one scoped, one not. So I don't need another 9.3 but...

Dies are on backorder in most places except the expensive brands. The expensive ones are not better than the Hornady IMHO.
Cheapest I've seen in stock was Outdoors 4 Less has the dies for $43.60 + S&H
Then there are some on eBay if you can go that route.

http://www.outdoors4less.net/hornady-series-iv-specialty-die-set-9-3x57-366-546410.html

I prefer the Hornady dies because of the very tapered expander ball that takes 8x57 to 9.3 in one step. I don't need a false shoulder on mine. Daryl_S has posted excellent instructions for that if your chamber turns out to be long.
The Hornady inline seating sleeve is a nice touch too.

My Husquvarna is only marked 9.3 on the barrel not with the chamber length. Is Simpson checking each gun with head space gauges or do they have the records on all these imports. Any idea's

I have no idea if Simspson's checks headspace. If they say it's a 9.3 x 57 it is. They do check the cartridge intended as some of the 9.3x57 rifles rechambered to 9.3x62 are listed as such.
It won't say headspace dimensions on the barrel. Manufacturers only list the cartridge or caliber.
In Husky's case they only marked 9.3x57 rifles with "9.3". A designation of x57 or x62 is a case length designator for a cartridge, not Headspace dimensions. We assume the rifle left the factory at CIP or SAMMI spec. However, there was no CIP or SAMMI spec for the 9.3x57 until last year.
The long chamber is pretty common in the 1920s thru 1930's M46 small rings.
You can use 8x57 gauges to see. If it closes on the 8x57 Field Gauge you have excessive headspace. But if it doesn't close on the Field Gauge you're good to go.
You need to read Daryl's write up on creating a false shoulder to fireform his 9.3x57 brass to his chamber After you do that you only neck size so you don't push the shoulder back again.

http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=179514&an=0&page=0

Don't loose sleep over it, just check it before you shoot. Billybob on the internet got his information about headspace from his cousin's girlfriend's grandpa's dog. Just check it with the 8x57 Field gauge and if it won't close, go shoot. If it closes on the Field gauge come back and let us know.

Just to see what would happen, I fired a mild 8x57 handload down a crappy bore M46. Case formed perfectly, even the neck!. The bullet was only about 6 inches off the bull at 50 yards. Don't try this at home kids etc etc. My attorney makes me state that 'cause we know someone is going to do it.

Well Iowa...I believe you just tipped the scales. I have been eyeing Simpson's Husky's in 9.3 X 57 for close to a year. I believe it is time to "pull the trigger" on one. I thoroughly enjoy my 9 X 57's so the 9.3 is just more of a good thing, right?

Sharps4590,
PM me and I will send you the #'s of a couple of real nice ones at Simpsons.
Just wondering if you're in Ozark county? My grandparents lived between Tecumseh and Gainesville on J Road.
Spent my summers there growing up. Lots of beautiful country in those parts.

No sir, I'm near Rolla, quite a ways from Gainesville. I've been through there but not for a long time, like decades. I looked at that Husky you sent me the link to. I guess I did miss it. It certainly has a better description than most others. Only thing is I wish it had a Schnabel fore end. Seems a phone call will be in order tomorrow.

Well...Outdoors4less had the dies backordered however, I found a set at CH-4D which I much prefer over Hornady. They should be here next week. I believe I'll start necking up some -06 brass with my 9 X 57 die and trim fairly close. I'll be that much closer when the correct dies arrive...

My 9.3x57 cases made from '06 brass, would not allow a .367" bullet into a fired case, thus they needed to be neck turned. I ended up going with RP 8x57 brass as they did not need turning. Even the 9.3x57 PriviPartisan cases were thicker than the 8x57's. I preferred the necked straight, then necked down to a crush fit, 8x57's. I rather like my Hornady dies.
I will admit my .50/95 dies are CH and they seem good dies. The set of dies CH made for my buddy for his .376/06IMP were grossly undersized at the shoulder. I sent 3 empties and they ignored them, sending their Generic set of dies.

I have several sets of CH4D dies an am pleased with all but one set. I will say that I have talked to Dave several times and he has been very helpful. It is how ever very difficult to convince him he is wrong. That is the one set of dies that I wasn't pleased with.

The Prvi 8x57 cases are what I use to make my 9.3x57 cases.
The necks measure .010-.011" thick after being run through my Hornady sizing die.

Daryl, thank you for that piece of information. I have an outside neck turner and while I don't relish the thought I'm now aware it might need to be done. Foreknowledge helps with problem solving!! If so many friends didn't give me their expended 30-06 brass I probably wouldn't consider it. Since I'm not an -06 fan or user I use the brass for reforming into a few different cartridges.

Wayne, that's been my experience. To date what Dave has done for me has worked and worked well but no one is 100% correct 100% of the time.

Iowa, I will enter your experience into my notes. I don't believe one can have too much information.

I have a couple sets of Hornady dies and they work ok. The thing about them I don't like is the same thing several do like. I can't stand that sliding bullet seater. It appears to work fine but I just don't like it...go figger.

Was at the local gun show yesterday and there was a model 46 from a local pawn shop on a table stock and finsh a little rough. Maybe 70% drilled and tapped for a scopes no cracks but plenty of digs.9.3x57 but the bore ugh.how do you beat up the bore on such an obscure caliber.anyway 600$ I think if it were in the 4s I might have bit.might go look at it at there shop armed with more knowledge.
