Can anybody tell me what I have here?

I got this for a song at an auction yesterday. But, I can't find anything to tell me what it is. The only markings I find are the ones in these pictures. Any help would be great.

More and better pics of the action would be nice. Also, the front sight and stock features.

Potog, I was hoping somebody may have been able to help you.
From what I can see, this M-98 rifle may be chambered in .30-06 (see stamping on underside of barrel, just forward of receiver ring)?
Sorry I can't be of any more assistance.

So before I put any more money or work into this gun I decided to see if it would even shoot. For the first shot I tied it to my rifle rest and ran a string to the trigger, then I hid behind a tree and gave it a tug. Afterwards I inspected the shell and found it pretty well pristine with no signs of any issues. So, then I tried 3 more shots off hand from 25ish yards and ended up with a group of the 3 shots almost touching.

I think my next step will be to do a rust blue job on it, then at some point I will trade the plastic stock for a wooden one.

Magazine release knob looks very similar which BRNO Mauser used to have. In my eyes your rifle is quite nice but well used custom Mauser made by some hobbyist gun builder.
