Holt's auction house in the UK may be able to arrange pick up from various European locations and freight of a firearm to Australia. They have one or two Australian agents who can then take import delivery.

David Handyside in SA is one Holt's agent. I can pass on contact details if PMed.

Obviously for a fee, export costs, import costs etc. Discuss the possibility with the agent. Firearms might be shipped with a regular auctioned lot.

I have utilised David's services in the past.

The photos don’t appear to show the caliber marking and I wasn’t aware that Mauser made the Type S in any caliber larger than 9x57. Jon Speed apparently is not either. See pages 158-60 of his book. If this rifle is really caliber 10.75x68 it is either a rarity or a modified rifle.

In the photos that .375 has the red/plumb colour of a rifle that was re-blued way back. It might just be the color balance of the photo. The markings look sharp. Is the forearm a normal fit or been free floated?

Nice rifle, but the rear sight base is crooked and damn they’re ugly bases

At least the front base is crooked too so there shouldn't be any strain on the scope.
You wouldn't want to fit an early reticule moving scope either as god knows where the reticule would sit in the view once shot in. Real botched job if ever there was one

Imagine doing shit like that to any rifle let alone a H&H, some people are unreal. A pair of aluminium Weaver bases worth $000 to that action. You cant get uglier.

Still it could be salvaged and made into something very nice.

Nothing about this rifle looks right to me. Fortunately there are many members on this site with far more experience than me.

To me the rifle looks like a bit of a Frankenstein rifle. The RHS of the action looks like a sporterised P14, The LHS of the action has a Mauser type thumb relief. The bolt looks like a P14 straightened and re-welded. The stock is not of the quality one would expect from H&H. The while spacer recoil pad doesn't appear correct for the era. Has someone simply thrown together a whole lot of bits?

I agree with Hunter. The bolt release on that rifle looks like a P14/P1917 rather than Mauser.

Yes, H&H made rifles on the P14 action.

Those scope bases are hideous!

Apparently someone bought it.

Probably a collector, because this weapon is not very practical for big game hunting.

As for the cartridge 600 Nitro Express and big game hunting, that can be discussed.

The scope on the Mauser, has a telescoping rubber attachment on it's Ocular lens.
The scope could only be moved forward by about 1/2" by the looks of the front dovetail.
On a 10.75x68, I would not want to shoot that rifle.
With the drop to the heel, appearing to be sighted for irons, with such a high mounted scope, the end of your chin would be the only cheek weld.
There would be quite some head movement with recoil. No, I would not want to shoot that rifle equipped as it is.
I do like the heads-up attitude this rifle requires when shooting with a scope, just that the scope is too far back as well as having that rubber eye-piece that would impact around the eye upon recoil. NOPE! WOULD NOT SHOOT IT AS IT IS.

Really stupid attachment. A rubber eye piece. Right on the eye. Why? Any purpose?
