Nice concise article.
That picture of those confiscated Mausers is a real gut wrencher!
Just wonder at the fate of those great rifles.

Thanks for article NitroX.
I have a Boss Mauser in 303 British (Short Intermediate Action) which looks just like a Rigby Mauser.
The article explains allot.
Cheers

It may be shocking to many admirers of the "British Rigby Mauser rifles": If you look into Jon Speed's third book, The Mauser Archive, page 35, you will see that the pre-WW1 "Rigby Mausers" were actually made by the Mauser factory to Rigby's design. The barreled actions on these Mauser factory photos are complete with the "typical Rigby sight bases". Stock making for Rigby is also mentioned there. Elsewhere in that book you will find an Oberndorf 1920s inventory list that shows "stocks for Rigby rifles". Apparently Rigby only finished and sighted the rifles, at best, had them proofed in London and engraved with their name and serial number.

Hi Pjaln,
Search Boss 303 in the "Mauser Discussion Forum" and there's a couple there.
I posted it a while ago.
Cheers

This has been wel known and acknowledged for decades. Most prewar Rigbys may well be considered to have more Commercial Mauser content than Rigby.
Nonetheless the two combined colminate in a very nice bolt rifle!!

Just had confirmation from the great people at J Roberts & Sons that the 303 was sold by Rigby to Boss & Co in 1906, Boss & Co just slapped their name on it and put it in a case, it's gone through some nice hands
