ADI loads for 500 Jeffery

HI Fellas
I have just received my new CZ Rifle in 500 Jeffery. I use ADI powders but on the ADI website there is not much by way of load data.
Does anybody using ADI powders have any data that they could share? Obviously the usual caveats apply.
I will be using Woodleigh projectiles and I have a rather large stash of Federal primers to work through.
Also any advice on loading dies would be appreciated. I'm told RCBS make dies for this calibre but that they use a one inch body as opposed to the regular 7/8 die bodies.
Does anybody have a set they no longer require ?
Any and all advice is appreciated

I think they are listed on the ADI Web site or in the ADI book.

They are mate but only one load. I was hoping for some more varied information as I would imagine that most people who have this calibre load their own.

Hello Bob,

Standard load used around here is 110 to 120 grains of AR2209, 535 grain Woodleigh or Bertram projectile and a 215 Federal magnum primer, seated to the crimp groove and firmly crimped.

Like you said, usual handloading caveats apply, start lower and work up etc etc.

To make the US data more useful, Hodgdon H4350 is identical to AR2209. Cross-reference: http://www.hodgdon.com/msds.html

RCBS do make the dies, on a 1"-14TPI body. So you need a press that has at least 1.25"-12 capability, and an adaptor bush. The Lee Classic Cast press is a good [and relatively cheap] option.
CH4D are another die maker, but there are reports of problems with this calibre: http://www.bigbore.org/index.php?option=...=10&id=1393

You're probably better off to order the dies direct from the US, e.g. from a crowd like Huntington's, http://www.huntingtons.com/dies_reloading.html - bottom of page.

Shooters Warehouse in the ACT can get them through Midway USA, but their prices look a bit steep: http://www.shooters.com.au/categories.asp?cID=5791

The brass options are Bertram or Norma, by the look of it.

I got 100 rounds of brass through Jamieson without any dramas. It appears to be of very high quality.

I'm not a great fan of CH dies, the one's i have had in English calibres have never had the right dimensions.

And the "standard sizes" for the English cartridges don't seem to conform to the specs of the cartridge including easy one's like 500/465 and one other one, both of which were proprietary cartridges and so should have been easy.

Sometimes you get lucky - like my gopher shooting buddy - with his .17AH dies. I wasn't so lucky.

My .500 is currently being built, however I decided to have my reloading gear set up in advance. I went for a new RCBS press with the 1" hole, and a bushing adaptor, get a good quality press, don't muck around trying to save a few bucks, it will only cost you more in the end.

I managed to buy RCBS dies on Ebay, you've got to be persistent, I saw one set and decided to wait until pay day a few days off and missed out. I contacted the seller who advised that another set was on its way and they would advise me, never did.

By chance I saw them listed by the same seller and I snapped them up, problem buying from the USA is that most won't ship to Australia.

For brass I bought from Bertrams some "Kynock" stamped cases, good luck.

I strongly recommend you use Federal 215 primers and keep your load density up to avoid hang fires (I had two before I learned this in my 500 Jeffery and they are very scary). I'm using Barnes 570g TSX's, Jamison brass, Federal 215 primers and 103g H4895 with an OAL of 3.63" in my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery for just over 2300 fps and sub MOA accuracy. Recoil is "sporty" but not bad at all off hand. From the bench I've learned to use a lead sled ... Picture of my 500 Jeffery in my not so neat garage ...

It's a great caliber, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have been ...
