Type A Mauser in 9.3x62
      #330398 - 22/07/19 04:11 PM

Hi all, I havent posted in a while, thought I'd share some photos of an original unmolested Mauser.

The main attraction to me on this particular rifle, is the original butt plate and of course... the SSB action

Fantastic rifle but that Recoil Lug is an eyesore. It needs to be blued to match the other metal.

That is about as good as it gets! I’m green with envy. I own a similar rifle from 1939, but mine has no banner on the front ring, no square bridge, has an added red recoil pad, and is in rather poor condition. Running across a rifle such as yours would bankrupt me and cause a divorce! Thanks for sharing.

I would love to have a rifle such as that!

How does it shoot?

Mine has similar recoil luv, but it seems to be made of brass, so it can’t be blued. It doesn’t bother me at all.

My Type A 404 has three cross bolts inserted in the stock, all coloured epoxy filled to blend nicely with the stock finish.
Agree the finish of the single crossbolt on the 9.3x62 tends to draw the eye, three like that would definitely distract from a nice original stock. I don't know that any of the Type A Mausers had crossbolts from the factory so anything done to change the finish of them is not modifying an 'original' fitting if wanting to preserve as an untouched collector.

Many ( if not most) Oberndorf commercial rifles in 9,3x62 and 10,75x68 started their life with the crossbolt. Independant from Type A or Type B.
In smaller calibers it was an exception ( Apart from TypeC ).

They always used steel and no brass.

From what I have seen, serial no 112xxx and up had crossbolts installed in calibers 9.3, 10.75 and 404 only. Irrespective of Type.

Agreed, they where made of steel.
