After seeing the thread on African Mausers I decided to share this with you.

Some pictures of Emperor Menelik II's 10,75x68 Oberndorf Mauser in my possession. Model B in fair condition with an octagonal barrel.

hi korv,
great - very similar to the 8x57. i have heard earlier that there is another gun from
emperor menelik in scandinavia, but its the 1st time i see your gun.

Lion of Judah is personal symbol for the continous line of Ethiopian emperors.Starting with Menelik I son of King Salomon and Queen Sheba.Therefor gun decorated with lion of Judah on the stock can only belonged personly to king

What is the "white" inlay, is it "mother-of-pearl"?

I don`t know but Feinejagdwaffen member of this forum who has had similar gun
said that inlays were made with ivory,silver and mother of pearl

That's amazing. Lot of fine inlay there.

I see Champlis have his son Emperor Haile Selassie's Double 400/360 NE Evans for sale. It is fairly plain compared to your Mauser.

Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia. Born 17th of August 1844 and died 12 December 1913.

Responsible for the beginnings of "modernisation" of Ethiopia, Ethiopia was transformed into a "modern" empire state under his reign, completed in 1898. Ethiopia was expanded to the South and East during his rule.

During this time, Ethiopia repelled the first Italian invasion. With the captured white Italian soldiers used as slaves within Ethiopia afterwards.
