Paul: These photos of your collection are long overdue. Look forward to more. Good example of the "silent sling" on the 400/350.

Pjaln,

Beautiful stuff and all unmolested. These rifles look better to me in their natural state than they do refreshed (although I have been guilty of refreshing a few). The Type A in 6.5x68 has to be very scarce.

Lovely.

Had the pleasure of visiting Paul today and got to see his collection "up close and personal". He owns some of the best conditioned all original pieces you can find, especially the Rigby's. Mauserholics like me love to see "unmessedwith" stuff like this. Maybe he will get around to posting some of his other "kids".

Beautiful set pjaln! I have a HV .275 Rigby and visited Paul in London a few years ago. I was able to look up my rifle in one of the few ledgers that they had in house. My Rigby has a number "1" engraved on the bottom floorplate and from the ledger it showed that my gun was one of a pair of rifles ordered (in 1932 by Lord Zetland). The bottom engraving does not refer to the model number of the rifle type. From the ledger I have the serial number of the matching number "2" but unfortunately I don't own it or know if if the rifle still exists. I also picked up a couple silent slings when I was there :-)

My leafs are: 100yds standing with 300yds and 400yds. My rifle is a 140gr 'High Velocity' model.
Here are some pics of the rear sights, the markings and the number 1 engraving that I refered to above. Mine is a St. James address rifle as well. Wished I had the case like yours.

notice the 2 guns in the ledger above yours are no 2 sighted for 100,300 400 yours has a special notation it seems refering to the magazine plate being engraved ,,i believe that the engraving has more to do with it being a pair of guns than the model designation ,,i have the rigby ledger for my rifle around somewhere ,,do you have a better pic of the page,,,my gun was built in 1906 for a captain E.YORK.....paul

Here is the full ledger page with my rifle on it. The earlist rifle on this page is from 1928, the latest is 1934. Yes, for sure my gun is a High Velocity model (marked HV in the ledger) and the number "1' engraved on the floorplate refers to it be one of a pair of guns ordered by Lord Zetland. Here are some more pics of the ledger page that I have. Note that most of the .275 on this page are Number 2 HV models. Most of the other rifles are .350 Rigby Magnums and a couple .416's. I wish I owned a few more of these :-)

Lovely rifles fella's.
Thats the problem with our modern world. There aren't any of those old rifles just laying around.
Google finds most things.

After looking at the photos several more times, I think I can say that I like the .303 best of all. Just something very appealing about the look of that rifle.

The second rifle of my pair ordered carries a Rigby number 5455 and in both cases Lord Zetland supplied matching scopes for both of the rifles. The Rigby rifle numbers follow a standard chronological sequence and are marked on the bottom of the trigger guard.

Its very intereting looking at the ledger especially the Mauser serial numbers; My "Mauser" serial number #1032 and is in sequence to the next that fall below mine..... but the previous rifles built have varied numbers (example: #1031 was built in 1929). The somewhat random Mauser factory numbers can't really be used to judge the chronological order when dating Rigby Mausers as Rigby was dependent on what Mauser actions were being delivered at the time.

I visited J. Roberts in London in 2005 when I got a copy of my ledger for my .275. A friend of mine had seen an older "1908" ring marked Rigby .275 that J. Roberts had at the Safari Show and wanted to buy it. Since I was in London on business I offered to drop the check off for it at the shop. It was great to see some of the rifles stored in the gun room; some amazing stuff!

Paul- If you have a copy of your ledger can you post a pic of it? Also would really like to see a some pics of any original accessories that you have in the case as those are scare and hard to come by.

Paul,

Better and better! The research is the icing on the cake! Nothing embellishes a grand old gun that its history IMHO!

Good hunting, my friend!
