.333 Jeffery Mauser
      #157747 - 29/03/10 03:47 AM

Here's a Jeffery I recently picked up.
I really like this rifle for it's originality - I can just imagine its travels...
Well worn, but also well cared for. It has the patent Jeffery peep and front sight and the bore is pretty nice as well.

It would be good to see a few more pics and a bit bigger as well. The sheer class of this rifle deserves a bit more detail.

An attractive piece, by what we can see of it. The striker is an interesting shape, even beyond the peepsight attachment.

Pretty sure that is all part of the Jeffery patent peep sight.
There was a picture posted elsewhere on NE of the same sight. I'll see if I can find it.

Has anyone a close-up of how the Jeffery sight attaches to the cockingpiece, ie, is it the same as the Rigby in that it is dovetailed in to the rear as mine is.

Dons has kindly forwarded me the following diagram of the Jeffery peep sight and it apears to be threaded to the turned down cocking piece in such a manner as to have the vertical front face just short of the shroud in the un-cocked position.
Many thanks Dons.

Huvius-

Great rifle!
I have a Neat Little Jeffery from around the same vintage, with a similar front sight and the same cocking piece sight.

I'd very much like to see some more detailed images of your front sight hood and the cocking piece sight.

Cheers

I can get more pics for you this weekend.
The front sight hood would be very simple to replicate.
I would love to see pictures of your Jeff Mannlicher as well!

Very nice! Yes, Huvius, + 1 on the additional pics. A lovely girl like this one needs to be shown off!

Good hunting!

OK Tinker and Mehul, here goes.
A lot of pictures, but a good study of the Jeffery sights...

Huvius-

My nice rifles are all in deep storage right now as we transition into our new ranch.
It will likely be weeks before I get them back out, up and running.

If it appears as if I've forgotten to get back here with images of my little 6.5mm rifle, ping me with a message and I'll try go get on it for you.

In the meantime I very much appreciate these views of your sights.
That is essentially the same package of sights I have on my rifle, with five leaves (all fold down flat) on a rear-sight banded base.
My front sight came from the factory with an ivory blade instead of the brass bead you have, and I need to replace the ivory in mine - as well as a couple more parts for the cocking piece sight, which will wait until I get 'the load' developed for the rifle. As it's a regulated five-position sight, I will end up regulating the sight to the load, which will hopefully end up regulating to the island of five sights on the barrel -- we're going for a perfect world here aren't we Huvius..?

Cheers

Huvius,

Thank you very much! "Incredibly beautiful" just doesn't describe this work well enough. The sheer amount of work that would have gone into making these sights in the pre CNC era is a remarkable testament to an era when people took pride in their work and simply did their best.

Thank you very much for sharing the additional pictures. Good hunting!

Don't know yet.
I have to admit - or confess - I don't get out to shoot very often so most of my stuff collects the proverbial dust...
Yes, it is a very sad state of affairs around here...
