Hi Gang
I'm excited to be receiving a new addition to my hunting rifle collection. I purchased a Mannlicher 1908 Stutzen last week and I expect that it will be delivered to my FFL end of this week or next week. I was lucky to get it at a great price. The main issue is that somebody previously removed the set trigger. I will need to see what inner components remain. I'm in the process of trying to track down the appropriate parts.
I now have a 1903 full stock rifle, a 1905 Stutzen and this 1908. My intent is to have one of every proprietary Mannlichers for my collection. That means I'm on the look-out for a 1910 Stutzen or take-down rifle. I've seen some 1910's for sale, but I would like to find one that has not been modified for a claw mount scope. It seems that the 1910's are less common than the other years.

The M1905 (9X56MS) is the least commonly encountered of the proprietary MS rifles / stutzen / takedown of M1903 through M1910.

Trigger assemblies exchange readily on same as well as single trigger of Y1903 and variants.

It was Grand - Dad's; can't have it.

John F. Easton, M1910 Take Down Model, 1922 proofed, purchased 'second hand' 1930 in Ceylon while a Goodyear executive.

I've seen the eBay add for the set trigger. I just can't justify paying $630 for it. The rifle will function as is. I'll keep hunting for the parts. Rothammer, it's so great that you have your grandfather's 1910. I've seen the photos taken on his safari.

Brought the 1908 home today and I had a chance to disassemble the rifle for a thorough cleaning. The rifle was manufacture in 1919 and is very good condition. The stock has very few handling marks. The wood is dry and will need some oil to give her sheen back. The barrel and receiver have a few areas of surface rust. I'll boil all the metal parts and card them afterwards. The old girl needs a little attention.

I'm also making a collection of these rifles. But I'm starting with the 1892 to the 1924. I have to get another 1892 and the 1900 and my collection will be complete.

I have to say that these Mannlichers are addicting. I love giving these old girls a new home and giving them some love. I especially enjoy reloading and working up an accurate load. Being able to take them out into the PA woods and using them for what they were intended for is wonderful.

Looks like I successfully purchased a 1910 rifle this weekend! I posted a want ad on another forum and received a response. Timing was perfect as the owner had decided to sell his 1910 about the same time. He's owned the rifle for 4 years and never shot it. The rifle is in wonderful condition.
The lot includes the rifle in beautiful condition, 2 boxes of loaded ammo from Reeds, 2 boxes of brass and RCBS dies.
I'll post pictures once I get the rifle in hand.

Congratulations! It's wonderful to see more of these in the hands of those who understand and appreciate them and to know they'll be preserved as well as used with care.

What's next; an original Sequoia, perhaps? A 'High Velocity' in 10.75X68 ?

Look at the diameter of the shoulder, compared to the base dia.
That is actually .001" LARGER than an Ackley Improved dimension. It is within .001" of most 9.3x62 ctgs. even though some books say .451" for the 9.3x62.
My Mauser and a Styer both measure .454" at the shoulder on a fired ctg., thus with .001" contraction after firing, the chamber has a .455" dimension.

While 'factory spec' of .35 Whelen is wider at base (.471) and narrower at shoulder (.441).

I received my 1910 earlier this week and I thought that I would share some pics with you. I was able to purchase the rifle, 40 rounds of loaded ammo from Reeds, 40 pieces of Norma brass, 1 box of vinyage Kynoch ammo and reloading dies as a complete lot. I should be set for a while.
I disassembled the rifle for a thorough cleaning. The proof makes indicate the rifle was made around 1912. The old girl is in great shape for being 104 years old. The bore and metal is excellent. Wood has a few handling makers which is to be expected. I'm hoping to take the 1908 and 1910 out to the range on Monday and see how they perform.

If made around 1912, it's in "extra grouse" shape for being ~111 years old!

'Twas proofed at Vienna in 1912, as evidenced by the 2741.12 proof mark (2,741st arm to be 'nitro proofed' at Vienna during 1912), hence is indeed at least 110+ years of age at this time (March, 2023).

Satisfaction is to shoulder and fire an M1910, particularly with cartridges one has hand loaded, is it not?

Grand Dad used DWM 531 cartridges.

I guess I can't blame my math error on spell check. She is indeed 111 years old. I agree that it is so much fun reloading and shooting these vintage rifles. I've cast bullets for years for handgun and my 45-70 single shot. I think it is time to get into casting for bottle neck cartridges now.

Member Sharps4590 casts for an M1908 and would surely share advice.

Near twin to my 1910, proofed in 1914, I hope to get back out to the range when the weather warms and the famous Kansas March winds calm. I have 150 Hornaday 270 gr round nose.

Nice Rifle! As to photography, a big help would be to not photograph the gun against a white background. The camera is reading and setting exposure on the white, so the gun is dark and underexposed.
