My Carcano project

I had a Carcano action in the mix and had wondered what to do with it, after seeing Lancaster's project the light bulb went off. So this is really a case of blatant plagiarism. The barrel is a Howa 7.62 x 39, I made a bushing to resize it to the receiver and re-chambered. The stock is a NOS Boyd laminated that I found on the internet. Still waiting a new bolt handle and perhaps cutting the forearm back 4 inches to give a better balance. It feeds and shoots very well and will handle both brass and steel case ammunition.
I do need a scope mount for it but having a difficult time finding one that will work, so if anyone can help with identifying a mount that will work I would appreciate the information.

using my patent is free for the first rifle!
if you start produktion I get than 7 1/2 cent for any rifle you build.

looks like you have also the CZ magazine

simple way will be to build a side mount. I have made such a thing before, its screwed and soft soldered - if you want to see pics.

Yes I would be interested in seeing what you have done. Yes the CZ magazine was a good pick and fits very well in the bottom metal. 7 1/2 seems kinda expensive what would you do with all that money

Drilled and tapped this yesterday, haven't shortened screws yet, but this should give you an idea....Lynx mount for Mannlicher Schoenauer.

Interesting mout, but it xould do very nicely.

Shortening that stock a bit should make for a nice handy little gun.

this startet once with a pair of scope mount rings for 11 mm dovetail and a piece of T - section from a scrap box. because the 11 mm ring forgives little tolerances I made the rail from the t- section with a angle grinder and a file. polishing the rail was the most time consuming part of the work. as you see the rail was screwed on the side of an old lebel rifle, than soft soldered. in all no problem because it was clear the thing was rust blueing after. there is a pin on top of the rail behind and before the ring screw so the rings can not move when the scope is attached. in all it cost nothing beside of the money for the power.
you see the lebel have a similar receiver like the carcano so the scope is on the left side allowing the bolt handle to move.


















this simple weaver sidemount will probably doing the same or better for you

I have upgraded the project, I cut 4 inches off the forearm and added sling mounts and scope mounts. I was looking for a suitable mount for the round receiver and found a Weaver detachable side mount works perfect. The mounts are a discontinued item but they do show up on Ebay every so often. The scope is a K4 Weaver that I have had laying around for a while looking for a place to be useful

specially cutting down the stock improved the look of the rifle. I think your are on the right way

do you have also the case when loading in slow motion the cartridge will not make it into the chamber?

I did have when I initially put the gun together. I solved the problem by readjusting the latch so the rear of the magazine was positioned high enough to allow the bolt to clear the lips and still engage the cartridge.
The front of the magazine was a different problem as it was too low in the front to allow the cartridge to feed properly.
I made a "L" shaped piece similar to the one you showed in the original post and secured it with the original screw to provide a pivot point, this allowed the magazine to rotate up and back slightly using the latch cut as a pivot point on the magazine, with a spring between the upper portion of the block and trigger guard wall to provide tension and push the magazine up and back enough to allow the cartridge to line up with the feed ramp and lock into the release latch. Once this was done the magazine would slide in and latch.
I did run a ball end mill on the upper portion of the insert to match the rounded portion of the magazine and help hold in in position.
I also milled a few thousands off the bottom of the trigger guard as you might note in the photo, this did allow for a bit of room for the magazine to have room to move, not sure if it was necessary but did work.
This was a file and fit kind of exercise until things worked.
I hope this makes sense.
If you want I can take the adapter apart and send a photo.

thank you for the pics, could be your magazin stands in another angle that brings the tip of the bullet closer to the barrel. I have 1 mm too much between the feed lips and the barrel with common 7,62x39 oal. when cycle the action in slow motion the cartridge will jump out of its way because the magazine will kick the butt when the cartridge leave the feed lips and the next round come up.
it did not happen when you move the bolt in common speed because of the inertia of all parts involved.

I thought I wrote it down but the magazine sits at a 5-8 degree tilt pushed back with the spring loaded block in the front.
