That is a great rifle at a even greater price! I've watched it for some time now and ultimately decided that I will pass on it. I like Fraser's, but this particular rifle isn't a good representation of the Fraser style. The boys at the bench just didn't do much to this one to for some reason or another. I've seen a very very small number of Fraser Dutch Mannlichers that literally ooze the Fraser style (take down, Fraser bolt, AH fore-end with Deeley latch, etc). Still, it's a great price and a great rifle. Someone on nitroexpress really ought to get this one!

I should have assumed it had not snuck past Sir Coker.......:):):)

Agreed on it not be a "full-on" Fraser, but it is a price that I could justify.

Regrettably, in emailing with Gary at ProGun there in the West Midlands, he has stated that it/he is unable to export to the USA. I will assume He doesn't have the capability. I do not know if I want to weather the export storm again.

Caprivi,
I import out of the UK in batches several times per year. If you are interested in that rifle, I can get it here for you.

I would suggest all here stay very far away from Stephen and Steve.

Pending more info, looks like I will need dies, cases, en-bloc clips and some more proper bullets.

Quite a flurry of email activity this morning. The outcome looks like I will wire funds in the am, then recline to wait for delivery. Bouldersmith thinks mid-summer. Plenty of time to procure en-bloc clips and some more brass.

Here are a few more pictures. I wanted verification that the "Fraser Trigger Action" was still intact.

A very big thank You to Steve Bertram, Bouldersmith, for helping and reassuring on this deal. This is my first importation in the new era (post-911) so have been anxious. So far so good.

While still patiently (sort of) waiting on Importation, I have been gathering components. Found some en-bloc clips, 1 being color case and 1 being nickel. Dies. Hornady bullets. Still looking for brass if anyone knows of any. My stash of Norma "6.5x53" turns out to be MS/54mm rimless not 53mmR.

Just found these and could not resist;

While I have the cursory "6.5x54MS" die set and know they work well, it is just cool to have a set that say "6.5x53R" on them. These arrived today. Here are some other pictures of procured goodies.
They are mainly being posted for my therapy as I wait on importation.......Thanks for indulging me.

Die set, nice old (dirty thou) vintage RCBS

Some en-bloc clips and some MS ammo for effect

Some stashed ammo I had thought was 53R, turns out to be MS

2 boxes of very cool Norma 156gr Softs, to go with 200 156gr solids I have.

Those Norma bullets look just the ticket, Ed. We are in the same boat. I have a Dickson Steyr .375 coming. I hoovered up an old box of Hornady 270 round noses at Tulsa, and found some 300's a month or so ago. The rifle has proofs for 320's, so I wanted the different weights to try. Also got some .405 Winchester cases to squash down too, now all I need is dies and I'll ready to go.

Thanks Mike.
Those old Hornady as well as the Remington 270gr RNSP where a favorite when I still maintained a H&H. These old cup and core bullets are just wonderful for these moderate loadings. While I load and use super high performance high BC bullets for the Prairie, i do love these sensible classical chamberings and there heavy for caliber (conventionally constructed) bullets at that magic 2200 to 2400fps. I think I read and commented on a Blog pretaining to this....;)
With a few trimmed .223 cases and a swage you could make some 320's........

I had a x57mm that was proofed for the 270gr, odd that the "smaller" NE case is proofed for the 320gr. The "small" case 375's handle the 300's and 350's very well in my tests. While not a classic persay, I have a hankering for a Whelen. Mainly for the ease of feeding it.

Schneider, what about them ??? Just that I was too slow in ordering and none are currently availible, I DO intent to try them as well. Also Norma and Lapua make big 155-156gr bullets as well, they will be tried too. I have some "normal" 140's also the requiste 160rn Hornady, but they are hardly photo worthy.

I was just mentioning them, as they are new.

I got rid of my stash of Hornady 160gr when Woodleigh did their first batch of these. I've bought in bulk and that is all I use in my little Gibbs takedown now.

I've even tried them in my BSA Model 1923 in .26 BSA, but as yet without much success. It was developed with 110gr in mind and mine is marked for 120gr. I'm seeing if I can drive them fast enough to stabilise. Being built on a P14, the rifle will handle it and more.

If you did want some, let me know. I can easily slip a couple of boxes in the mail for you.

Hello... I am getting a Dutch M95 6.5x53R carbine. I know it is not one of the elite hunting rifles seen here, but I wanted a project. The rifle was cheap enough but brass is not abundant. The caliber is what intrigues me.

Thus I have decided to go the route of forming my own from .303 British. All I have been reading shows it is not a process that is too difficult. Have stocked up on some brass, pushed the shoulder back with a .308 Winchester die, necked down with a 6.5x54 mannlicher die, trimmed to length, and now am waiting for a somewhat nice range day to fireform them. My bullets of choice are the Hornady 160gr.RN

These Woodleigh bullets...being new to this, are they more desirable than the Hornadys? A few of us have decided to do a white tail deer hunt this fall with old military rifles and I want to have a good bullet for this hunt. What say you?

In northern Minnesota, USA. Deep forests, thick tamarac swamps and short range shooting.

Sparks, sounds like you are on the right track.

As to case forming, there are some variations on headspace on there rifles , so I would like to see a bit of a false shoulder on my fireforming loads to maintain I nice snug chambering as well as longer case life.

As for bullets, the Hornady will work very well at this velocity. The Woodleigh will as well, probably a bit better, tougher. My attraction is that they are not cannuelered, hence being far more photogenic. Funds on my end did not alllow me to pursue the proposed deal on the Woodleighs from Scheider. Postage was quite prohibitive.

Looked at them, shipping from Australia would be too much. That and paperwork could be something too.
Thanks
